The entrance to my unit is at the back of our building along a long balcony. It faces west and, as the storms coming in over Sydney this evening are coming from that direction, I had a prime view of the clouds lighting up over the hills.
Dark sky, clouds steel and white and awesome. Totally gorgeous and while they could be considered spooky, perhaps not inherently gothic.
No…. The gothic part was more when a bat flew across my field of view in front of it all.
Perfect… except for the absence of the morbid sounds of screech owls in nearby trees.

Will sulphur crested cockatoos do instead of owls? we had lots just before that storm.

Yes: it was a cracker of a storm last night! Or storms, considering there seemed to be a few.
We have fruit bats around where we are…they seemed oddly quiet last night.
