I’ve been noticed of late that it’s very hard to be both a blogger and a twit; to do either well one seems to suffer at the expense of the other.
I’ve been on Twitter since 2007, I’m within the first 1 million users actually (#797,113), how’s that for an early-adopter hall of fame statistic? And when I finally figured out what it was for, and that it was way better when you’ve got friends on it, then all the brain space I allot to writing was directed towards thinking up witty bon mots of 140 characters or less. Gradually, as life got busier it was easier to wow my loving audience that way, and frankly the conversation flows a lot more easily than it does in the comment section of a blog post, so in a sense there was more instant gratification on twitter than on the blog, an frankly when you spend all day on the computer and at that time, all evening studying then brain space was hard to find let alone allot to the blog.
But I miss the blog when I’m not posting on it, and it’s been interesting this week having to think about blog posts then actually write them down. It’s been great reading and responding to comments too! But the long form writing writing part’s hard, I’m tired and 140 characters seems a lot more attractive some times.
Interestingly, over on Twitter I’ve been making friends, not just following and connecting with people who already live in my little corner of the internet world but ‘meeting’ new people! The connections have been spilling over from twitter into real time chat as well which has been really fun!! Frankly I’m really enjoying this new mode of twitter that isn’t just about me trying to amuse but is actually more about conversation. It’s still kind of a weird medium to conversate on actually, so few characters harder even when you use half of them linking the 4 of us up ( @sassygirlcanada @AidaofNubia @Into_The_Mystic is a whole lotta characters) but is a good challenge!! Given that we are 2 Canadians, 1 in America and me, the hardest part is synchronising watches!

I am liking that you’re writing more on the blog – not the same as seeing and talking to YOU but sometimes an insight into the corners of your mind that might not have come out *in real life*

I remember you telling me all about the new fandangled “Twitter” way back when!
I’m not sure why I’ve never embraced it…blogging it and always will be my true love I think!
Enjoying your nanablopomoing here too!

Thanks Fi, I’m linking being back in the groove and all the followers about the place who are doing Nano are inspiring me to dust off the novel too!!! Talk about going to extremes… I was thinking about you the other night, feel like we haven’t caught up in ages. I think my next trip home is going to require some Kiwifruit Homestead and Gaming Emporium time. xx

Wow! 2007? You’re a veteran! I’m really glad we met!!! I see a fun future ahead! :)
I have to agree on the blogging vs. tweeting thing. Maybe the key to keeping things balanced is to link all media? At least that’s what I see social media gurus doing. They find good topics on twitter, post links on Facebook for feedback, write a blog post about the topic & the FB responses, upload photos on Flickr to embed into the posts, then they go back to twitter and share the link to the post. Don’t forget all the feeds that are automatically pulling their tweets. (FriendFeed, Tumblr, etc.) I can only imagine the traffic that goes to their website when all is said and done.
My process is much simpler:
1. I tweet
2. I think about blogging
The end.

Comic Gold – I think I need to confiscate your twitter passwords so you actually make that blog live!!

I love your blog, and I think it’s amazing that you have been on Twitter since 2007! WOW! I joined in August of this year, and am constantly amazed at the connections I have already made. :)
I am new to blogging and I admit…my topics are a bit silly to some (I blog about the reality shows from the Bachelor franchise from the U.S.), but I blog the way I would speak to others. It’s funny, incorporates my sassy personality, and I laugh as I am typing. It’s a fun release for me, but it’s so time consuming! Twitter is short, sweet and to the point, and I love that. It also allows me to take chats offline and write/chat as much as I like with very cool people I meet along the way…like you!! XO

Thanks Sass!! I have a rule round here that I don’t blog about TV! But I won’t hold it against you that you do!!! That’s one of the things I love about the blogosphere – room for everyone and more common ground that we might expect!! Glad to have met you too!!
