On Switching off the Box in favour of Tuning my Ears

February 23, 2005 by

I’ve turned off the telly!
Not because I’m giving it up for lent or any such self disciplinarian reasons. It’s just that there is nothing startling on till 8.30 and it seemed that my cd collection could use an airing.

So, I’m listening to hmmm… what shall it be? Sting? Harry? Matt Redman or Darlene Zschech? Evanesence? Miles Davis… Nik Kershaw? (who is a personal favourite by the way)…

Egads, I don’t know…

I’ve got it… I’ll put on Charm’s cd, some very cool piano type jazz… which you can check out here… if you like!

ed] I listen to Nik Kershaw’s recent (yes, he has released music since the ’80s) albums, “15 minutes” and “To be Frank” – completely excellent songwriting…

Well, anyone who can listen to a Bothy Band album, come up with such a stream-of-consciousness nonsense as ‘The Riddle’ and *still* come up smelling of sweet, sweet roses must be doing something right.

Not bad at all is Nick Kershaw. Nor Thomas Dolby either, another mildly under-rated synthish-pop name from the time…

Brave girl, admitting to liking Nik Kershaw on the World Wide Web ;)

Well the riddle I suppose is to guess what you chose. Wouldn’t it be good if you had a compilation of the lot.

Um, at this point it’s been a long time and I can’t think of any other Kershaw track titles to easily try and insert.

    An accurate guess Ian..

That and all the CSI stable of shows… and er…

    and very little else!!

Of course, unless you count Crossing Jordan as well.

    But that’s all

    Really… I think.

Mmmmm…Ian goes off wondering if Deeleea is interested in "Spicks and Specks", "Dateline", "Blue Heelers", "CSI: Miami" or "Medium". ;-) I’ll guess CSI. ;-)

Aaah, that sounds nice. Can I come over? I can’t sleep. A bit of soothing music should do the trick. And maybe a certain member of Jonah’s Wailers (hahahahahahahaha… sorry, can’t help myself) can sing me a lullaby?

P.S. Always thought S.Africa was the only place with party lines! You know, the phone operators are STILL in the town where I grew up. I bet NZ’s a bit more advanced than that now?
