Not quite 100 Things

  1. I am the daughter of two…
  2. sister of 3 (all younger)…
  3. …auntie of 9 – 8 of them boys…
  4. stepdaughter of 1…
  5. sister-in-law of 3…
  6. step-sister of 2…
  7. …wife and mother of none.
  8. I grew up on a farm, a real live cow farming farm
  9. and had lambs and calves as pets.
  10. I prefer cats to dogs but would prefer either of them over fish…
  11. but with fish I had to make do … until Chino came on the scene.
  12. Chino’s no longer with us, but he has was well succeeded by Lulubelle (Lulu for short) who is also no longer with us… so now I live with Sailor.
  13. I was once a Christian by faith
  14. but am still All Blacks supporter by religion.
  15. Which belies my nationality.
  16. I am actually also an Australian, because everyone knows that two nationalities are better than one…
  17. …and so I can vote – I’m socially responsible like that.
  18. I get osteopathic treatment – I have a very crunchy back and neck.
  19. I live in a first floor flat that I own, and I am embarrased about how long it took me to enter the property market.
  20. I’ve lived in Auckland, Sydney, London and Washington DC, and Melbourne at different times in my life.
  21. But I call Australia home when I’m in NZ…
  22. …and NZ home when I’m in Australia. Trippy… I know – it’s the expatriate’s condition.
  23. I was born in the ’60’s but I don’t remember them.
  24. I was born in April which makes me an Aries – but I think horoscopes are rubbish.
  25. I am a singer… for fun not for profit, though I have a degree as a singing major… I’m pretty good at it actually, but I after years of reflux, and stress, it doesn’t come so easily these days.
  26. My favourite perfume is Coco Mademoiselle – but I hesitate to wear it because of a salesperson’s ageist coments the last time I tried it on in Duty Free.
  27. I spent years working full time for myself. I loved being my own boss, but it wasn’t very secure, so I went back to being an employee.
  28. I work as a website project manager…
  29. … and coined the moniker the Web Princess when I was a solopreneur…
  30. …I loved to tweak html and mess with code – that makes me a bit of a tech head or geek… but I think I need to learn a whole lot more until I can really be called that.
  31. I’ve traveled Europe and the Continental US…
  32. … and hardly traveled Australia…
  33. …or New Zealand, for that matter.
  34. I speak high school French and would love to get fluent.
  35. I have been blogging since 2004.
  36. I can write gud but don’t do it very often lately.
  37. I take photos for fun, and once was hoping to make a bit more money out of it… hah
  38. My iPhone was ‘my Precious’… until I lost it. But I got a new one – and have had so many since then, that I can’t imagine life without one.
  39. I love to play video games, and bought a Switch during the pandemic… and then a PS5, becuase I’m now hooked.d
  40. I gave up ebay for FB marketplace.
  41. I have a pretty messy bedroom most of the time.
  42. I put that down to my inherently creative nature.
  43. I blame that too for the fact I HATE listening to people eat… I’m especially sensitive to noise…
  44. …my shrink calls it skinlessness…
  45. …apparently creative people have heightened senses – that makes it sound like a good excuse to me.
  46. I drink gin and tonic and have a tidy gin collection.
  47. I drink red wine too actually… and white…
  48. …and if I had to pick a last meal it would be Roast NZ lamb with mint jelly and kumara and all the trimmings…[or maybe Kirk’s corned beef]
  49. … with cheesecake to follow.
  50. …all washed down with a Barossa Cab Sav Merlot.
  51. I’m comfortably upholstered…
  52. …and while waiting for will power to be bestowed on me from above to reduce the depth of the upholstery… to this end, I joined a gym.
  53. … it didn’t last long…
  54. I used have trouble sleeping then I got old, or self-accepting…
  55. which is still a work in progress.
  56. I listen to jazz and I love it.
  57. I listen to occasional gospel music and love that too.
  58. I used to go to sleep listening to my Dad playing his guitar.
  59. He still plays the same songs and they make me smile still.
  60. I’m an excellent aunty…
  61. I love apartment living.
  62. I left home at 19, NZ (for the 1st time) at 20 and stayed away for 3 years.
  63. It was the best thing I ever did. It meant I missed the worst of the parental marriage breakdown…
  64. …but coming home to 2 households was a bust…
  65. …it took 10 years for it to be ok.
  66. My paternal grandmother passed away at 101 and only moved to a rest home in her 102nd year.
  67. I’m not sure if I want her genes or not… I guess it’s better than my maternal grandmother’s record. She died when my mother was 3…
  68. …she died of breast cancer…
  69. …she might have lived longer if she’d chosen to have treatment…
  70. …but she didn’t. She chose my unborn mother.
  71. I am most proud of my [old fashioned] middle name, because I share it with my mother and her.
  72. I only wear pyjamas when I’m going to sleep at someone else’s house.
  73. I only wear my hair up on days I need to wash it.
  74. I walk for exercise. But clearly not enough..
  75. I have been a smoker. But have been clean for more years than I can count…
  76. …sometimes I still miss it.
  77. …and so I have one… and it totally grosses me out.
  78. I have had my writings published in a national magazine and an international e-magazine.
  79. I used to kill plants unless they were cacti and don’t need watering above once a fortnight. However, I currently have 3 plants and none of them are dead!
  80. I love all things French…
  81. … I often wish I lived there.
  82. I love sailboats. One of my warmest memories is sailing in the Greek Islands.
  83. …part of the warmth of the memory was kissing the ship’s captain (who was old enough to be my father…*blushes*)
  84. I prefer staying in to going out.
  85. Being with too many people in one place makes me exhausted…
  86. …but I actually don’t mind meeting new people and I know how to have good conversation!
  87. I had to sit my driving license 3 times before I passed.
  88. My first car was a 1965 Riley Elf . It was green though.
  89. I am still bummed I sold it (for a profit too).
  90. These days I drive a Toyota (practical but boring).
  91. I don’t tell anyone that I love Teddy Bears still (but only keep 2 4 on my bed).
  92. I love to meet up with people I’ve met online. I have such a broad range of friends I would never have met otherwise.
  93. I could never be a vegetarian.
  94. It has taken me a week to come up with this list.
  95. Now you know more about me than most of my family!
