Loose Ends

November 15, 2004 by

First off is a nod to James who has been posting images from around Australia lately… He posted one from Queenscliff, Victoria I thought you might like to see one of Queenscliff NSW… Actually, this is my neck of the woods, in fact you can actually see my unit block in it! If you are in the neighbourhood and up early enough you might see me walking along grass strip above the lagoon (rhs of the picture) all the way up to the beach and from there all the way to the top of the picture (Manly) and back… it takes about an hour round trip and I did it this morning for the 1st time in ages… Consequently I am rather sore this evening…

Second is a quick report for Ian who wanted a rundown on church last night. It was brilliant, Ken Duncan the photographer I mentioned showed us some of the images from his latest book ‘Reflections’. What a legend, the book is a series of images of Australia and quotes from Scripture and various people and is absolutely stunning. It was awesome to see someone who is so widely known so unashamed of his faith in God and so gobsmacked by creation. A great night. Bet and I had a great time there and finished the night off with a trip to the pub… A perfect evening!

Finally I actually need to log off as I have a girlfriend coming over to use the computer… eeek! A whole eveing with out it… I might need a couple of wines (hmmm wine … lovely stuff) by way of an anaesthetic… I will just have to watch the 2nd last episode of Friends instead… yes we are WAY behind… thanks a heap Channel 9 …

Bliss is off to Land of the Queens

November 10, 2004 by

Well, it’s all over… after 1009 days together I am losing my Bliss.

Since she first started talking about a move to ‘that city up north’ it has been almost 4 months… it hardly seems real that we are moving into a new phase and going our separate ways. How funny does this sound? Like we’re breaking up…

I guess we are.

I used to get asked quite regulary if Bliss was my best friend, and insensitive as it sounds I always said no. Bliss and I are friends of a different kind, not exactly kindred spirits but better flatmates because of it I think. We knocked around together comfortably, the length of time it lasted is testament of that, I think it was an opposites ‘attract’ kind of thing! We were together so long we were always invited places together and always spoken of in the same sentence… The odd couple.

I think I am blissfully (excuse the pun) ignorant of how much I am going to miss her. I am not a sentimental type of chick and currently feel reasonably philosophical about the change… I think I am in denial. I believe I am going to miss the sneezing in the morning, the door closing as she leaves the house at 6am, the vacuum cleaning, the ability to excuse eating icecream at any time of the day, and chocolate for that matter.

Of course, I am also going to miss the long chats late in the evening, the single girls lament as we discussed our singular status, I’m going to miss her easy company too. Her wisdom and her amazing insight.

She’s a top chick.

So, here’s to the future!! And free lodging up north… And the best thing is that she will be back here every 8 weeks for work. You just gotta be happy with that…

I Don’t Believe It

October 25, 2004 by

I have talked about Tez before but you might have to read back to get the full picture… He’s that one single guy that every girl has in her circle of friends who comes across as interested but never does anything about it… I am still not even sure how I would respond if he did actually make a move… I think we have fancied each other on and off for about 5 years but never at the same time!!

Anyway, we had a farewell party on Saturday night for Bliss who has been talking about leaving for months but still hasn’t gone…. All the usual suspects were there… and some of the non usual ones. It was a very low key evening, Babe (my tiny house guest) slept through the whole thing so we were the picture of cosmopolitan social circles as we served up a feast and mingled, wined (hmmm wine… lovely stuff) and dined the night away.

So, Tez was there. We hardly got to speak because I was being the gracious hostess and doing the mingle thing. Of course Surf (sigh… why isn’t he older???) was there and as we always spend lots of time chatting which made it it even harder to get across the room to touch base with Tez… SO imagine my surprise when I get an email today from none other than Tez himself asking me what I am doing tonight and inviting himself around to watch Australian Idol… (which I WILL be watching… but you didn’t hear it from me ok?)!

Hope he isn’t wanting a serious chat… can’t help wondering if he thought things were looking a little cosy with Surf and thought he might just have to jump in!! Of course he could just be doing the hanging with my homies watching idol thing!!!!

I am just a teensy bit mystified … he NEVER suggests the plan… if we ever hook up it’s all down to me to organize…

Hmmm the other alternative is that he thought Sis (married) was a fox and wanted to hang out with her…

Temperature Check

October 13, 2004 by

Today the air temperature in Sydney was 38.2ºC. That equals 100.76 °Farenheit. That equals Hot.
Bl**dy hot. The hottest October day in 64 years….

Fortunately I work in an air conditioned office…

However, my house is not air conditioned…

Think The Wizard of Oz… think the wicked witch of the west… “I’M MELTING… I’M MELTING.”

Too hot to blog… my computer is like a hot water bottle on my lap…
