Getting Booked

September 9, 2004 by

I have been thinking – and before you ask, it was not painful thank you.

It seems to me, in these early days of wishful thinking concerning YGM2, that I should do a little research to prepare to present myself in the best possible light, should we in fact arrange to meet up this weekend. Which, I may add, I currently consider to be a highly desirable prospect.

So I have scoured the shelves of our bookcase (Bliss and I own many tomes on the subject) and found 4 notable volumes about relationships between the sexes, all of which purport to be written by experts and doctors and such. Surely these will arm me well to snag myself a man… Or at least snog myself one…

(oooh I say… she’s feeling saucy!)

Anyway, these notable volumes are

Relationships That Work [and those that don’t] by H.Norman Wright “the singles guide to looking for love in all the right places”

Finding the Love of Your by Life Neil Clark Warren PhD Ten Principles for Choosing the Right Marriage Partner

Boundaries Before Marriage by Dr Henry Cloud and Dr John Townsend Rules for Romance that Can Help You Find the Love of Your Life

and the piece de resistance

Mars and Venus on a Date by John Gray PhD a guide for navigating the 5 stages of Dating to Create a Loving and Lasting Relationship

So…

What do the experts have to say I hear you ask?

I will let you know, I haven’t read them yet. They have been on the shelf as long as we have lived here and to my knowledge not been opened… This may explain why, both Bliss and I, both in our early (ish) 30’s are still single …

Highly Productive

September 5, 2004 by

What a day – it’s midnight and I have finally climbed into bed … Yippee, another bed blog!

I went to bed at 1am last night after preparing pancake batter for Ricotta Hotcakes with Honeycomb butter (thanks for the recipe Bill Granger – you are the Patron Saint of pancakes) – had guests and wanted a fuss free cooking session this morning.

The came, ate, chatted, raved about the pancakes, (will post recipe if anyone wants it) and left at around 11.30. It was a great time actually, most people love our place – it was a gorgeous Sydney day and our view over the ocean is a real thrill to show someone for the first time.

I then managed to get my laundry to the wash-o-matic grab the paper, come home for a quick read and back to the laundry for the wet clothes.

Hung them on the line.

Sat down at the laptop to attack the next book I am writing (in bed, of course) but sent an SMS to YGM2 instead.

Transcript (edited a teeny bit) follows

Dee I am procrastinating, the guests have gone, laundry is clean and drying… Computer is all revved up and ready to go. Can’t decide whether to call you now and put the book off or save you for later as an incentive to get started… Whaddya reckon?
YGM2 Well, saving me for later makes me sound like dessert and I am sweet like it. But hey, we will be able to chat longer.
Dee You are wise, I need to get busy or I’ll get nothing done. If you’ve not heard from me by 3.30, call me, I will need rescuing…
YGM2 Gee – I am getting good … from dessert to saviour in one SMS …

Hmmm… finding myself enjoying this cyber flirting a little too much perhaps…

Anyway, got cracking on the book decided to stuff the word count and worry about it once the story had gelled. I mentioned it was a childrens picture book right? The word limit is 600 words.

Yep – SIX HUNDRED WORDS!!!! Not nearly enough.

So after 2 hours, I had got through the beginning and the middle and was stuck on the end. Decided to call YGM2 for the first actual voice conversation… Yikes. Don’t think about it I told myself – just hit send…

Transcript of phone conversation unavailable.

It was excellent though – after 40mins I made him call me back – I mean, it was on my mobile and Saturday is still considered peak rate (bl**dy telcos). He did … straight away and bang, there goes another 40 mins.

I think this is a promising beginning but I’m still not ready to leap to the face to face meeting. However, I believe YGM2 would jump at the chance… And Yet… a little anticipation could be a good thing … Thoughts anyone?

Anyway, rang off and went back to the book. Finished the ending… Finger hovers over word count button. *Click* 1348 words.

Yikes!

Mary Poppins will Never be the Same

September 4, 2004 by

In honour of the 40th anniversary of the release of Mary Poppins, Channel 7 screened the movie last night. I had not planned to watch it, in spite of the fact I love this movie, it is right up there with TSOM.

Love it.

Anyway, I was sitting on babies last night which presented the perfect opportunity to watch said movie in comfort of someone else’s home. It also presented the perfect opportunity for YGM2 to text me and say hi.

The conversation went something like this…

YGM2 :”Hi”
Me “Hi Yourself”
YGM2 “Watcha doing?”
Me “Watching TV, and you?”
YGM2 “Washing and weekend housework before Mary Poppins comes on at 8.30”
Me wondering if he is for real“I love that movie, it’s right up there with TSOM”
conversation continues

We texted each other all evening, lots of trivial info was shared and a good time was had by all! Felt a bit like that scene in The Truth about Cats and Dogs. (Without the phone sex. More like the sandwich making part.)

So, it would appear that our first date was watching Mary Poppins together, separately, which he did while doing laundry and house work.

she ponders Hmmmm, Likes Mary Poppins + House trained =…

OMG

Spring for a Day

August 30, 2004 by

“and now for our regularly scheduled forecasting” – cold. I am in bed with the electric blanket back on after a week without it…

Hmmm, reminds me, this is first bed blog for a while. Lovely!

I have news… Until it is official I cant talk about it. So, this is me not actually talking about it… I am all excited and jiggly. Tell you what, if the General Manager hasn’t discussed it with my boss tomorrow I am going to have to give him a stern talking to; simply because it is very unfair to make a girl keep a secret for this long (5 days).

I have decided that writing a blog is more difficult than it looks. My head is a constant buzz with life and stuff that making a choice about what makes it to cyberspace and what stays in my head is challenging. So I am going to err on the side of economy and go to sleep instead of blogging – I’ll make the hard decisions tomorrow…

PS – I have a new You’ve Got Mail. Decided to name him the same as the old one… so for differentiations sake .. we have YGM (the 1st) and YGM (the 2nd). He (YGM the 2nd) seems very nice actually, we even have shared interests which is a step up from YGM (the 1st). Could actually be a bit promising…

Jack I still haven’t mailed the MOI (men of interest) on the G.O.D.S (Godly Online Dating Site) will take your advice eventually but for now have made the bold move of adding a couple to the favourites list…

PPS I think It wont be long before I need a second web page for all my acronyms…
