At Last – My Broadband Days have Come Along.

January 25, 2007 by

And, after another 24 hour delay (due to mislabeling of the boxfull of modem) I am back in high-speed cyberspace. which means back on MSN… hurrah… and back to slightly more regular blogging. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He just came a month late…
So, to answer Fi’s question about the rabbit. He actually is an escapist from the neighbour’s house. He makes an occasional break from his cage and ducks through the fence for a feed of my lush lawn. His name is ‘Snowy’. Seriously.
The lawn is lush because it hasn’t been mowed in quite some time… Awaiting a response from the property manager re the management of the lawn mowing… she’s reluctant… bugger… All I’ve got that could make an impression on it are my nail scissors… Not useful. At least not since High School when detention was spent mowing lawn with nail scissors… College discipline has come a long way since then, right?
So the rabbit’s appetite isn’t quite big enough maybe we should get a goat…

[Not so] Secret Code

December 12, 2006 by

So, the conversation goes something like this…
[bring… bring…]
Cap’n: Hello?
D: Hey boss, it’s me.
Cap’n: Hi.
D:[irrelevant small talk][/irrelevant small talk]
Cap’n:[irrelevant small talk][/irrelevant small talk]
D: Boss, you know all that money you’re planning on spending on me regarding learning to code CSS & Web Standards etc. yada, yada, yada? I have a plan to learn it all in 3 days… can I have the rest of the week off please?
Cap’n:Hmmmmm
Dee:[gratuitous sucking up and explanations][/gratuitous sucking up and explanations]
Cap’n:OK.
Happily the learning thereof isn’t costing me anything… It’s costing my new client a fortune… Cha Ching (Christmas paid for 3x over…) and if you could keep the fact I haven’t much of a clue what I’m doing on the QT that’d be excellent…
I’ll be out of office the rest of the week… in tech heaven.
Have a good one!

On Being the [Boss’] Pet

March 8, 2006 by

I lifted my head up above the radar.
Big Mistake…
Huge…
There are some perks in being recognized for your skills in a large work place. Being the ‘IT’ girl is good for the ego, for the self confidence. The bit I laugh about behind closed doors is that when all is said and done all I did was Google stuff, find answers, implement them, and make them work.
Gah.
The outworking of that is that now, the CEO goes direct to me, completely bypassing my boss. Bugger, there goes my buffer.
While the upside is that when a project works I get all the kudos, the down is that when the successful project sparks a whole lot of new ideas I get all the responsibility for, and the politically complicated task of, putting the brakes on the Next [Bloody] Big Thing…
Sheesh…

Techalogically Speeking

February 21, 2006 by

My techalogical cup has runneth over…
First there was the new preciousand now there is a new lapdog.
You may remember that the old lapdog, lovingly known as Dell, was a gift. I may or may not have told you that… but there you have it, it was a gift from a v. good friend.
It was/is still a v.good computer and has given me v. little trouble except for the usual wear and tear on the power cable (which has been replaced 2x, ka-ching) and today, a facelift for the hood (bonnet) due to butterfingery droppage in the dim, dark past which has just come back to haunt me (wherein cracks turned into Pieces Which Fall Off).
I’m posting this from the [now known as] Dear Old Dell (or DOD) with it’s new sleeker cleaner hood and while I’m v. grateful to the Captain for my v. pretty new lapdog [who shall be called Foogee] I shall be a bit sad to relinquish full reliance on DOD. For a start it’s MINE whereas Foogee belongs to the boss… and it’s blue whereas the newbie is shiny silver… which is a bit, well, ordinary…
Of course Foogee is wicked fast and the screen is nice and shiny, and it has a card reader in it so I can slot phone pix into it and it’s fast to turn on and off and it’s speakers are nicer than the Dell’s which were buggered within 6 months of getting it…
But… it, well lacks that sort of, sentimental connection… That sigh of hello, that someone loved you enough to give me to you greeting…
Bah… who am I kidding…
I’ve got a new lapdog… It’s ace!!!!
