Friday on my Mind

November 14, 2006 by

At the risk of getting shackled and slapped into jail for taking illegal pictures of performing artists doing big gigs in Sydney on the weekend I’m posting this pic.

I have to say I was thrilled to have been there, but as is often the case one builds up such a huge head of expectation that it can be difficult for even a band of the calibre of U2 to exceed, or even actually meet such high hopes. All in all it was a great night, but I was a little disappointed… Too far away, didn’t feel like the band connected with the audience, could have been the rain, could have been the first night in a new venue vibe… they played again there last night so I’m keen to hear from friends how it went… but it could have been just that I’m not as big of a U2 fan as I thought I was!

Ah well, I’m off to Billy Joel on Wednesday and having seen him in concert 3 times (mostly by accident… I’m not a HUGE fan… just so you know…) I have absolutely no expectations at all… I’ll probably be buzzing on Thursday morning…

Chocolate = Bliss

November 10, 2006 by

Bliss has been in town, both last week and this. The week before that she was in New Zealand and while she was there she thought of me.

I love that.

She thought I’d like some chocolate… NZ made, proper dark chocolate with white peppermint filling. This is peppermint chocolate done right… which is different than Australian Cadbury Chocolate which is milk, with green (ewww) filling. And made in Australia, which, don’t get me wrong, I love Australia… but doesn’t measure up in the chocolate dept as every self respecting Kiwi will tell you…

Anyway… Bliss was in NZ, 2 weeks ago and bought me chocolate… and came to Sydney last week and FORGOT TO BRING IT WITH HER.

Upon this earth shattering announcement I generously allowed that she need not feel guilty if she couldn’t help herself and had to eat it. Realistically… I probably would have… I mean… NZ peppermint chocolate… all alone… on the shelf…

But because she loves me so much she exercised great will power and last night… at our favourite Steak Restaurant she gave it to me…

I heart Bliss.

The Date on Friday

November 7, 2006 by

You may remember the date I got stood up on in March …
Well, roll on Friday, he called me… we’re back on… It’s only been 11 months… I’ll let you know if it was worth the wait.

Tequila Mopping Bird

November 4, 2006 by

It occurs to me this morning while I’m cleaning up the kitchen, that since April of this year I’ve drunk approximately 1.5 litres of Tequila.

Clearly not all at once.

I suspect though that this is more than most. I own that I’ve drunk more beer than this in that time and strangely, less wine I think. Certainly more tequila than any of my family have drunk in their lifetimes (combined). All in all I think it’s something of an achievement and whether it is one to be proud of will simply be a matter of conscience.

I own that mine is clear. For who could besmirch the joy of that first lip curling sip as the sour lime juice washes the salted rim off the glass and into your mouth. Who could deny oneself the refreshing icy goodness that cools the fevered temps of workday afternoons beset by pressure and angst and says hello to the long hot summer evenings complemented by a lazy novel on the balcony swing set. Yes, a good Margarita is a joy to behold and Daylight Saving is its best friend.

Better still is a Margy among my friends which is precisely how I came to be cleaning my kitchen this morning meditating on an empty Cuervo bottle.

The girls were here last night. A collection of my favs who’ve not partied together before for no other reason than I’d never invited them all at the same time.

I believe the mark of a good evening is when, even at midnight, one doesn’t have any inclination to kick them out the door regardless of the list of things on the agenda for Saturday. That and the fact that no one appeared to want to leave even then!!

This was that kind of night.

I just need reminding next time to eat dinner before I drink one of Haddock’s Margaritas else I again lose the ability to walk… or even stand up straight… So I’m leaving myself a note that it is a v good idea to have these kinds of parties at home so I don’t have so far to fall into bed…
