Dear Mr and Mrs Senior Pastor*

I have the incredible privilege of a preview of the 25-year book as I take my pen to the entries to proof and edit it a little – dotting the i's and crossing the t's with worship music in my ears and a heart full to overflowing with gratitude to God for you.

As I read the stories, yours and those your lives have touched, God showed up right here at my desk causing tears to spill over and me to down tools to write this short note…

Simply to say …Thank You.

Thank you for having the courage to take that journey, to take the high and narrow road… so that I could make it part of mine.

So that I could see the potential that God placed in me realised.

So that I could lose the fear of truly being who I am,

So that I could lose my fear of being a friend of sinners.

So that I could find my voice.

Thank you

With love,

Dee

Soiree Hip Hip Hooray

August 20, 2006 by

Well, my turn to post first then!!!! Ian because he’s no doubt up to his elbows in boxes and bits as his flat gets put back together in its new location and Miss Lisa because she doesn’t have a computer at home…

Yay me!!

Lunch was lovely, and even in my state of fasting (which went only a tiny bit awry) the company and food were a great combination, I recommend Mado cafe if you’re ever on the look out for good Turkish – they do have them in Melbourne and Brisbane too!!

The meal I had was a kebab, lamb mince on toasted bread chunks, the bread and a little bit of yoghurt sauce was where the fast went askew, but I think God is big enough to handle a miss, the first in 2 weeks, it will be the last for the rest of the week, I’ve bought in my weeks food supplies on the way home… sans dairy and bread!

Anyway, all of that pales into insignificance for the experience of hanging out in a great atmosphere with great people and I love the fact that such different cultures are just a short drive away. I must get out there more often… it’s so easy to get stuck in White Bread City up t’north… (love it though I do…). So thanks guys, and Yay? There will be a wibmeet up here on the Beaches before Miss Lisa goes off and moves to Tassie… we are highly desirous of your company on that occasion!!!

And a note to other Aussie wibloggers… Miss Lisa and Mr Tasmania will be building a house big enough for a wiblog weekend away… it’s a fair way off yet but I’ve invited us all down for a house party… we’ll keep you posted for when the place is done… and maybe our Melburnian mates can join us! Oh yeah, and Miss Lisa? Can you let Mr Tasmania know we’re coming… and work out a way to tell people how we all know each other without giving the game away!! You’ve got a couple of years to figure that out.. and get the placed finished off… Maybe the Anzac Day Wibmeet 2008!!!

Condiment City

August 16, 2006 by

Ok, I’m trying to get back in the habit… so I’m blogging what comes into my head… and, as I’ve just opened the fridge door, it’s condiments that spring to mind.

Because I am abundantly blessed with condiments…

An inventory… just to prove my assertion…

  1. Weight Watchers Mayonnaise

  2. Weight Watchers French Dressing
  3. Lea and Perrins
  4. Hoisin Sauce
  5. Tomato Sauce
  6. Sun Dried Tomatoes
  7. 97% Fat Free Dijonnaise
  8. Crushed Ginger
  9. Chilli Marinated Olives
  10. Wholeseed mustard
  11. Tabasco
  12. Sweet Chilli
  13. Plum Sauce
  14. More Hoisin
  15. Curry Paste Hot
  16. Curry Paste Less Hot
  17. Sweet and Sour Sauce Stir In Sauce (not mine… I make my own thankyouverymuch)
  18. Red Wine Vinegar
  19. Daddies Brown Sauce (what is that?)
  20. More Tomato Sauce
  21. Barbeque Sauce (also not mine… blech)
  22. Potato Salad Dressing
  23. More Sweet Chili
  24. More Barbeque (still blech)
  25. Cranberry Sauce
  26. Garlic
  27. Tartare Sauce
  28. Mint Sauce
  29. Salsa
  30. Dill Pickles
  31. Tomato Paste
  32. Fruit Chutney
  33. Dijon Mustard
  34. Basil Pesto
  35. Hot English Mustard
  36. Berry Jam

This disturbs me on so many levels.

I’m clearly not cooking enough that these things aren’t running out at all…

If I got rid of some of them I could have so much more room in my fridge, given that during this fasting period all the rest of the fridge is full of fruit and vege… poor Flick doesn’t have any room in there… (actually this is largely because I haven’t seen her cook in a month… she has a man, they eat out or at his… bonus = fridge room…).

It’s funny, I wonder what you can tell from people by their condiments… surely there’s a condiment personality test out there somewhere… hang on,

[rustle, rustle, rustle]

Yep… a condiments quiz… here’s my results…

What kind of individually packaged condiment are you?

Smucker’s Honey

Everyone likes their honey in cute little character containers much more than they like you. The most action you get is in the balls play area at McDonalds.

In The Still of The Night

August 15, 2006 by

Time Check 2am.

Sleepless in Sydney once again as I stayed up past the ‘sleep window’ watching tv which was hot on the heels of 3 long chapters of a theology textbook.

Yes blogosphere, you have been forsaken for the joys of deep theological study. Specifically this month, Christology… I just bet you never knew there was such a thing as a deep intellectual branch of science all about Christ. Yep. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying this course… I know… it’s not normal.

However, I’m not posting about Christology, so if you were about to leave here for more interesting shores, forgive my errant ways and let me waffle on about fasting… another strange and unusual Christian rite/tradition.

Now, I know that mostly fasting is associated with Lent, which is not heavily featured in the Pentecostal calendar. We just fast when we get the urge. And our Senior Pastor got the urge for the church to do a 21 day fast in August.

So? I hear you say, you don’t have to fast do you? The answer is of course no, I choose to do this. And for what it’s worth, it isn’t as though I’m eating NOTHING… actually, I’m doing a partial fast, I simply eat fruit, veges, seeds and nuts, and occasionally some meat. And I drink juice or green tea.

Yeah, sounds like a diet huh? Well, it may have physical benefits as well as spiritual ones, certainly the absence of coffee made its presence felt with the headache and lethargy, but a week into this 21 day course of action and I’m feeling pretty good. (No, no chocolate either… [gasp]).

The next step is to pray, and the flip side of the fast is that there is a roster going for 24/7 prayer, in the prayer chapel (yep, our church has a dedicated prayer building) and tomorrow I’m going to pray for an hour. Got anything you want me to add to the list?

Ooh.. here’s the answer to my prayer for tonight…[she yawns]…. yep, better head to bed before I miss the next window…
