Thoughts and Musings

August 5, 2006 by

Do you ever find that things, issues, occasionally pop up on your radar and for a time everywhere you look you notice stuff that relates to your interest? Cars… or if you're anything like me… BMW's, (actually I pretty much notice those all the time)… Brad Pitt… or whatever… Meh… maybe it's just me, but everywhere I look these days I see relationships…

Relationships…

The guy and girl kind. Not even the romance of them so much, but the interaction between a man and a woman, the differences, the similarities, the synergy or the dissonance, the communication (or not), the body language, the comfortable interaction.

I was at a men's conference last weekend, the latest Big Thing at work. I'm one of the few girls who attended the whole thing, not in the auditorium mind, where all the boys were… remotely – working away in my office where the service was being recorded for posterity… It's a bizarre circumstance, having an ear on secret men's business, but it's one of the things that has got me thinking more about men, and about the possibility of developing a relationship with one.

Ooh er Mrs, I hear you say.

Well, yes, the other stimulus of this pattern of thought is that there is the possibility of one [der, a relationship] on the horizon. It's complicated by distance, and, as you'd expect for an IT chick like me it's an internet thing.

I'm being very sensible by not letting my heart follow after an email (or 80 emails…eep!)…I've done that before. In fact we both are being sensible. We could dream about spending time together, and I'm sure we both have, but as much as we can, we do our best to deny ourselves the thoughts to save us getting carried away. In all good sense, there's nothing to consider until we've met face to face.

But if we do meet, and if that attraction doesn't disappear into the ether the minute we say Hi (as has happened before), well… we could be on the road to a ‘relationship' and considering that possibility makes me look at other people in relationships and wonder just what it might feel like for me. What would it be like to get over my hang-ups about intimacy and let KiwiFella into my world… and join him in his.

It's an interesting meditation for a girl who is a self confessed independent woman of means (and averages). The last relationship I was in was for 3 months and in my mind doesn't count because, truth to tell, I never actually fancied him… (A bizarre circumstance and one that saw me lose a dress size for the effect it had on my appetite.)

Anyway, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it… If he ever decides to take this ‘relationship' up a level and install instant messaging… or better still leap a jet to Sydney for the weekend.

I am WISE – Hurrah!

July 22, 2006 by

Well, happily my package arrived in the postbox and I didn’t even have to go collect it from the Post Office… very astute on Chas’ part, I’m not a big fan of delayed gratifaction… that little red card in the box means packages awaiting and a hurried schedule change for The Following Day to get to the PO before it closes and the lunch hour runs out.

I’ve heard much of this book and not read it so I’m thrilled to add it to my collection!!! An inspired choice. The optional extra is the little book about Edinburgh, there are [count them] 4 postcards between its pages… I didn’t have the heart to detatch them so you’ll just have to trust I’m not kidding you! (Chas, Apparently John Knox disappeared somewhere between Ed and Oz… Perhaps he was an apparition, or more divine than was previously thought and has returned to be in glory… or something!!!)

You guys are legends, it’s such a thrill for me to see little posts popping up here and there heralding literary delightfulness popping up all over the world.. I can barely contain my excitement!! And leave a comment if you want to do a Christmas Decoration exchange at the end of the year!!

Oh yeah… better attach the photo…

Favourite Photo Thursday

Well, I do at least have time to upload a photo… This was taken at Camera Club a couple of months ago at the Rozelle Antique markets…

The prospect of Smurfs as antiques is not a little disturbing…

Brain Dump

July 4, 2006 by

I’ve decided to take a leaf (would that be a maple leaf I hear you ask?) out of Jay’s book and post bullets, there’s just no energy or time for prose at the moment, and I strongly suspect that if I keep not posting this blog will go all stale and curled up at the edges… (uh oh… that paragraph looked a lot like prose… read slower and drag out the sentences so it isn’t so obvious.)

I’m tired, can you tell? If I miss the sleep window (round 10.30-11) I end up not seeing the new one open till 3am… I get much work done but I’m the walking dead the next day and even a jumbo latte isn’t enough to start my heart. It’s only happened once this week… I can’t afford for it to happen again. I might just go all pale and faint delicately in class… this would be A Bad Thing as there are no delicious single men to give me mouth to mouth.

I’m at uni all week this week, it’s an intensive to save having to take 2 hours here or there out of class. I was kind of hoping that I would have assessments in the intensive so I don’t have to deal with 2 lots of assessment in the 2nd semester but, well, that ain’t gonna happen… an exam and an essay… the word “Sh*t” comes to mind.

I’m having porridge for breakfast, and for the record I think the singular porridge innovation of the 20th century was the microwave.

When I was growing up we actually had a pot dedicated to the cooking of porridge in the morning and some poor sucker would have to stand over it and stir it (oh yeah, for my American readers it’s oatmeal) and make sure it was lump free for the rest of the family. The sucker wasn’t always me but I think I’m the gladdest that I can stick my oats in the microwave, set it and walk away and not worry about lumpy breakfast. Other than that, little has changed on the universal porridge front.

I’ve just about finished a massive project for the global organization that governs my church. If I show you will you promise not to show up at work and out me as a blogger? The few fellow workmates who know about Singular Scene are sworn to secrecy… now you are too… Cross your Heart? Good! Sign in blood below…

I hereby affirm that Dee’s Singluar Secret is Safe with Me!

Thanks. Here’s the link… Actually all the good stuff’s in the leader’s section which I clearly can’t show you, but you’ll get the idea. The design isn’t mine by the way, I’m just the tech head who made it work, complete with flash nav in the churches section.

Well, so much for bullet points… Go and read Jay’s she’s really good at them… I clearly have the blogging equivalent of vebal diarrhoea…

The Agenda for this evening is to finish the WISE match ups and list… so, if you haven’t signed up there’s still time… Mail Me Today and I’ll slot you in…
