The Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything

November 30, 2004 by

Deep Thought the supercomputer advised in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that the answer to the question “What is the Meaning of Life the Universe and Everything?” is 42.

Yes… 42

This makes today a significant day in the history of Australia as the forecast temperature for today (as you may have already heard from Yay) is…

42 degrees Centigrade. (Loosely translated into Farenheit is 108 degrees.)

That means it will not only be hot, but we may find the meaning of life today…

Though…

Not sure how we are going to do it if we are huddled around our airconditioners or submerged in the ocean… (if we didn’t pass out on the walk from the carpark…)

ABC easy as 123

November 28, 2004 by

I spent the whole day on the sofa – I mean it… I got up long enough to get some takeaway food from the local thai… and to hang out the washing. A whole weekend where idleness and sleep was the order of the day. Sorry to be blogging about such tedious behaviour, I swear there really is nothing else going on…

Actually, more precisely I spent the day watching the ABC (Public Television like the BBC or PBS).

It was largely because the other 4 channels were dominated by sport and as I consider cricket and golf 2 of the most tedious spectator sports I felt it to be the best of a bad lot… It was brilliant actually…

I watched Songs of Praise and was blessed by wonderful old songs and carols from Godmanchester, and then from Wells cathedral…

Then I increased my knowledge of the goings on of rural Australia by watching Landline… Got inspired and amused by Gardening Australia, the presenter is a trip… Then Message Stick where I learned how to cook with indigenous foods, watched the Young (classical) performers awards and then went to the opera to see the tragic story ‘The Stepdaughter’… By that time I was ready for some fun and hauled out Singing in the Rain from my small video collection.

It is such a good thing to have public television, not the least because it has no advertising but above all because it provides quality programming that broadens one’s horizons rather than narrows them. I hope public opinion continues to stand behind the ABC and continues to encourage government to support it with cash. Though I am the first to admit I don’t often choose to go to it first. Yet I am always glad when I do…

If I hadn’t been watching today I would never have realised that I get to watch a series about King Henry the 8th and his wives over the next couple of weeks… An admirable substitue for CSI don’t you think???

Lazy Saturday

November 27, 2004 by

I have been asleep for the last 4 hours, I can hardly believe it! I crashed on the sofa at 1 and woke around 4.30. It can’t be good to be that wrecked. It really cant.

I am babysitting tonight at 8pm, a late start which is likely to mean a late finish! Yikes… Looks like tomorrow will be another sleepy day too…

Not much else is news at the moment, the Count was supposed to call today before dropping off more gear but I’ve not heard from him, probably just as well as he would have woken me up and I would have been cranky… I think it’s the fact that I couldn’t tell him on Thursday just what time I would be home so he could plan his day that he didn’t make it.

I went to dinner at Tez’s house last night, dinner for 4. It was a cool time and once again I left thinking “He just isn’t into you”. This is ok, I am “just not into him” most of the time and yet we still get people asking us what’s going on with each other? Bizarre but true.

Thinking it might be pizza night tonight, I have little in the fridge to inspire cooking and can’t be bothered leaving the house till it’s time to go to work… will let my fingers do the walking and pizza hut to do the driving….

Yum… now, what to choose for the topping…

And So It Begins

November 25, 2004 by

I was dining with Miss Lisa last night and she told me off soundly for being slack at posting … So I am posting so I don’t get into further hot water!!!!

There has been very little happening lately, and I have been really tired so haven’t had much to report … However… this morning on arrival at work I decided to start charting the 8 week chapter about the Count… So Buckle up it’s going to be an interesting ride…

The Count has started moving a little bit of stuff into the flat… I have wanted to be generous in helping make the moving process as smooth as possible so haven’t minded that stuff is arriving before official moving in date. I think this is acceptable, however due to the intense nature of this guy I get a bit pressured to be deciding 24 hours in advance if I am going to be home so he can drop stuff off etc… You have to understand that I’m not the sort of girl who plans that far in advance… 24 mins is probably my limit… Actually the worst thing about it is his expectation that I will arrange my life to suit… As a consequence I am more likely to dig my heels in and make it a little less easy … (So call me a cow… You know you want to…)

This morning is indicitive once again of his attitude… He advised he hadn’t brought stuff to drop off tonight. He may bring stuff on Saturday instead… Of course I said, I may not be available on Saturday. I think it was the fact he didn’t ask if I was going to be home and instead assumed that I would be… That’s the kicker…

So, he said “When am I going to get a key?”

I replied, “When you start paying rent. *rolling her eyes across the desk at Shoe*

Silence

“You can start paying rent now if you like, then I can give you a key…”

End of discussion.

Please don’t tell me I am making a huge mistake inviting the Count to move in, you gotta know he is bascially just an ok guy with no clues about dealing with people… tell you what, he is going to be on a steep learning curve with me… And *deep breath* it’s only for 8 weeks.

She signs off to go and draw up a tenancy contract…
