Basking in the Glow

November 17, 2006 by

I was right, of course, I’m still high on Billy Joel. The sound mix was fantastic, the songs all my favourites, even though I’ve barely listened to him in the last 10 years, they’re timeless songs. The light show was perfectly complementary of the performance and whatever I may think about Billy’s [suspect] character he’s a bloody good songwriter and musician.

I had a great night, and NOW I remember why I shell out [or my best friends do] big dollars for concert tickets!

(and Cling brought in the album today… so I’m still listening to it!!!)

The Times They Are A Changing…

November 14, 2006 by

Well.

You know when someone says to you “Dee, I need to talk to you,” you’re in for either momentous news or a bloody good telling off…

I was the tell-ee… and Flick was the tell-er this morning. And actually, I wasn’t getting a telling off…

Momentous news! Flick’s on the move… nearer to work, nicer, bigger house lots of good reasons to go but, well, you know… no one’s a big fan of change, right?

It’s interesting though, I’ve been thinking on and off for a while that I’d like to move to a smaller place, a place for one… And the whole prospect of doing it just felt like a monumental effort and telling Flick I wanted to live on my own felt awkward… you know, like I was rejecting her. So I hadn’t got my act together to do anything about it. Things have been trucking along here fine enough etc…

And so! Flick’s news is just the kick in the pants I needed to actually make me start looking for alternatives and so tomorrow I’m going looking for a new place…

I think this one looks kind of fun…

Friday on my Mind

November 14, 2006 by

At the risk of getting shackled and slapped into jail for taking illegal pictures of performing artists doing big gigs in Sydney on the weekend I’m posting this pic.

I have to say I was thrilled to have been there, but as is often the case one builds up such a huge head of expectation that it can be difficult for even a band of the calibre of U2 to exceed, or even actually meet such high hopes. All in all it was a great night, but I was a little disappointed… Too far away, didn’t feel like the band connected with the audience, could have been the rain, could have been the first night in a new venue vibe… they played again there last night so I’m keen to hear from friends how it went… but it could have been just that I’m not as big of a U2 fan as I thought I was!

Ah well, I’m off to Billy Joel on Wednesday and having seen him in concert 3 times (mostly by accident… I’m not a HUGE fan… just so you know…) I have absolutely no expectations at all… I’ll probably be buzzing on Thursday morning…

Chocolate = Bliss

November 10, 2006 by

Bliss has been in town, both last week and this. The week before that she was in New Zealand and while she was there she thought of me.

I love that.

She thought I’d like some chocolate… NZ made, proper dark chocolate with white peppermint filling. This is peppermint chocolate done right… which is different than Australian Cadbury Chocolate which is milk, with green (ewww) filling. And made in Australia, which, don’t get me wrong, I love Australia… but doesn’t measure up in the chocolate dept as every self respecting Kiwi will tell you…

Anyway… Bliss was in NZ, 2 weeks ago and bought me chocolate… and came to Sydney last week and FORGOT TO BRING IT WITH HER.

Upon this earth shattering announcement I generously allowed that she need not feel guilty if she couldn’t help herself and had to eat it. Realistically… I probably would have… I mean… NZ peppermint chocolate… all alone… on the shelf…

But because she loves me so much she exercised great will power and last night… at our favourite Steak Restaurant she gave it to me…

I heart Bliss.
