Inspirationally Challenged

May 19, 2005 by

I have had little to report because I have been very busy doing this. Happily it is nearly finished so I can finish their other site and get my teeth into the last few pages of my ‘construction site’ (I’ll show you those ones later). I have also been working on what I think is a rather funny site all for myself. I’ll show you that one when I’m actually hosting it…

So, there is very little time for other things, I honestly think that I am welded to the Dell. It can’t be good for me.
But I love it. Guess that’s how an addict feels eh?

Anyway, it’s midnight and I am feeling rather proud of myself for finishing the cw site. I would like to point out that I can take absolutely no credit for the design. I just made a series of pictures interactive. There are a few glitches that I have no control over so forgive it if it skips a bit between one or two of the transitions. Overall though I am not ashamed to tell people the code is all my own work.

We’re still singing potion.

Sigh.

But we sound lovely!

Fuller Figures

I went to see my accountant today.

God, that sounds so grown up… my accountant. Actually he’s more of a bookeeper but that sounds less grown up so I wasn’t going to tell you that part.

I have had a growing sheaf of papers indicating where I have spent money since the inception of my little enterprise and a couple of deposit slips indicating cash coming in. However, there was no kind of order [read, at all…] and things all got kind of messed up between, my personal account and business bank accounts, and dollars going here there and everywhere, [read, robbing Pete to pay Paula] so it was time to Take Steps and get on the Right Track.

So, we installed MYOBon the Dell and I watched Bill (aptly named, so I left his appelation as is) punch my various bits of financial data into the appropriate fields and the truth is I feel no more grown up than I was this morning. In fact, my head is all rather muddled, because he left me with some of the accounts to do for myself… to put with that learning by doing thing I mentioned yesterday.

The problem is if I break the accounts I have no idea about how to fix them…

If it ‘aint broke, break it… and fix it… and break it again.

May 13, 2005 by

There are those of us who learn well by sitting in a lecture hall and having someone tell us how to do stuff. Aural Learners…

Nah … not me.

There are some who learn by watching someone do something and matching them. Visual learners…

Not me neither…

There are those who read the manual … *chokes*

Then there are those who learn by doing it. Practical Learners … Doing it right… Doing it wrong… Either’s good..

Yeah Baby.. that’s me… I broke one of my new sub sites at work [real job] twice today… Bit of a headache putting it back together… thanks be to the Baby Cheeses for backups… but I am getting the hang of it.

My boss knows this about me and he knows how powerful frustration is as a means of getting me off my behind to get what I want done. So he has been keeping himself so busy he can’t help me get the next leg of the project underway. He figured that I’d get fed up with waiting and I’d take the bull by the horns and do it myself.

He’s a smart man… I did. And like I said, I broke it… twice… and fixed it twice too… and it feels right good to have figured it all out by myself.

Now I have lots of lovely work to do next week… (!)
