Wend One’s Way Through Wednesday

December 2, 2004 by

The Opening and Closing of a day make whatever happens in the middle insiginficant I think.

Today started with our staff meeting which to the uninitiated looks just like [our] church services only shorter and without the offering. Somedays the singing can be a real drag, and sometimes it isn’t (like realy church really). I was singing with the team this morning, something I am newly returned to after 2 years off, and it was a truly great service. It just felt like being with God and it was lovely.

The closing of the day was spend with some of the girls over dinner and dessert and a movie (Raising Helen). I am blessed to have such incredible women within my circle of friends. All of them totally unique, they may have no more stuff in common than their acquaintance with me but conversation flowed and the movie was a hit. Felt like being with God and it was lovely.

Lots of News – Lookout Deeleea’s back in fine form

November 30, 2004 by

One I did not discover the meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything today, the temperature was hot but by no means 42degrees C. Bah – Some little weather troll probably stroked their beard and mused aloud that it could get as high as 42 and someone took it as gospel!!! From the info I can find on the web the temperature didn’t break 40 – maybe 38-39. This is a happy thing.. it means it was pleasant to come home in my non airconditioned car… and my flat is getting a sea breeze that was not to be expected! There you go! All is well.
[Update: Only reached 35deg…]

Two Further to the home front I may have found another flatmate for when the Count moves out (planning ahead… hooray). I happened to be in a conversation with a bunch of my workmates today and Adder who is a part timer in the office was there. He practically had himself moved in by the time the conversation had ended. This is ok… he is very housetrained guy and while he is definitely NOT gay he is the sort of guy who would make a great girlfriend… You know what I mean right? The kind of bloke who is at ease with chicks and knows how to live with them.

Not like the Count. Oh God… he is arriving in 4 days…

Three I nearly got killed in my car today… A completely stupid person pulled from a side street out in front of me causing me no small amount of consternation (isn’t that a great word?) and a short sharp blast on the horn. Wish it had been a train horn… he would have soiled himself then… It took half an hour for my pulse rate to return to normal and after a coffee I was able to thank the ‘hood angels’ for sticking their feet out in front of them once again and protecting my car and me.

Four Finally, I took delivery of my wireless adaptor card today – it’s a beautiful thing… Ostensibly (‘nother great word) I bought it to use at Coldie’s place where they have a wireless network. Otherwise I can’t connect to their internet connection and I am at an immediate disadvantage when I go over to hang out and play geeks with her… So, now that they have an unlimited download limit on their broadband connection I can go over there and the two of us can surf till our hearts are contented!! The spin off is that I can use the lap top wirelessly at work as we have a wireless network there and the less cables on my desk the happier I am right?? Finally I will also be able to take it to wireless cafes and drink coffe and surf too… this could prove useful in the future…

I can see that my next purchase will be a wireless router for home and a broadband connection… so much for a $36.00 purchase… I foresee it costing a whole lot more than that before long…

Enough Said

The Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything

November 30, 2004 by

Deep Thought the supercomputer advised in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that the answer to the question “What is the Meaning of Life the Universe and Everything?” is 42.

Yes… 42

This makes today a significant day in the history of Australia as the forecast temperature for today (as you may have already heard from Yay) is…

42 degrees Centigrade. (Loosely translated into Farenheit is 108 degrees.)

That means it will not only be hot, but we may find the meaning of life today…

Though…

Not sure how we are going to do it if we are huddled around our airconditioners or submerged in the ocean… (if we didn’t pass out on the walk from the carpark…)

ABC easy as 123

November 28, 2004 by

I spent the whole day on the sofa – I mean it… I got up long enough to get some takeaway food from the local thai… and to hang out the washing. A whole weekend where idleness and sleep was the order of the day. Sorry to be blogging about such tedious behaviour, I swear there really is nothing else going on…

Actually, more precisely I spent the day watching the ABC (Public Television like the BBC or PBS).

It was largely because the other 4 channels were dominated by sport and as I consider cricket and golf 2 of the most tedious spectator sports I felt it to be the best of a bad lot… It was brilliant actually…

I watched Songs of Praise and was blessed by wonderful old songs and carols from Godmanchester, and then from Wells cathedral…

Then I increased my knowledge of the goings on of rural Australia by watching Landline… Got inspired and amused by Gardening Australia, the presenter is a trip… Then Message Stick where I learned how to cook with indigenous foods, watched the Young (classical) performers awards and then went to the opera to see the tragic story ‘The Stepdaughter’… By that time I was ready for some fun and hauled out Singing in the Rain from my small video collection.

It is such a good thing to have public television, not the least because it has no advertising but above all because it provides quality programming that broadens one’s horizons rather than narrows them. I hope public opinion continues to stand behind the ABC and continues to encourage government to support it with cash. Though I am the first to admit I don’t often choose to go to it first. Yet I am always glad when I do…

If I hadn’t been watching today I would never have realised that I get to watch a series about King Henry the 8th and his wives over the next couple of weeks… An admirable substitue for CSI don’t you think???
