Baby is Suitably Showered

September 6, 2004 by

It’s over – silly games and all.

It was in fact, a great night, and the games while slightly silly weren’t at all undignified! Yay!!

Happy about that…

And no… winning a couple of movie tickets (the best prize I have ever received at a shower) have nothing to do with my change of heart…

I mean it.

No…

Really…

Showering on Babies Rant

September 6, 2004 by

Oh God … I have to go to a baby shower tonight… This is not good.

I have no objections to blessing and wishing well the mother to be, in this case a friend from college days. A good friend. I will go and bless her and cluck and chat to all the honoured guests. It will be great – I know it.

My objection is not to the party, or the blessing, or the wine (definitely not the wine… lovely stuff). My objection is to the silly games.

I have not had it on any authority at all that there will be silly games… But I have very strong suspicions that there will be …

I want to know – who decreed that there will be silly games at baby showers? Silly games make girls look silly…

I am not a rampaging feminist by any stretch of the imagination, but I do deplore the loss of dignity when strong, capable, intelligent, grown women play silly baby shower games…

Gah

I Didn’t Blog Yesterday

September 6, 2004 by

That is pretty much a first … I got to the end of the day and was stuffed… just didn’t have the strength to open the laptop…

I was on screens at church last night – sitting in the back of the auditorium making sure the song lyrics are projected at precisely the right times and for the prescribed duration per phrase.

I blew it too

One song was thrown in as an extra before the preach… I didn’t recognized it and panicked trying to remember the song from the intro in time to get the screen up before the singing started… Failed miserably… but found it in time for the second verse!

It is a funny thing, being on screens, it is not in my nature to panic as a rule, until I am under that particular pressure!!! Still – no flaming arrows from heaven or the pulpit appeared so I think I got away with it…

Another extended conversation on the phone with YGM2. We have progressed to home phone numbers… this is due to the excessive cost of mobile phone calling and sms (bl**dy telcos) and the fact I had 46 sent messages in my phone… at 22c a message it soon adds up…

Very easy on the ear, a South African accent …

Photo indicates YGM2 is reasonably easy on the eye too… girlish giggle

Will leave some time free on Saturday for the f2f meeting … Hope I can wait that long… I have far to much on early in the week and will need time for the hairdresser and a manicure…

Highly Productive

September 5, 2004 by

What a day – it’s midnight and I have finally climbed into bed … Yippee, another bed blog!

I went to bed at 1am last night after preparing pancake batter for Ricotta Hotcakes with Honeycomb butter (thanks for the recipe Bill Granger – you are the Patron Saint of pancakes) – had guests and wanted a fuss free cooking session this morning.

The came, ate, chatted, raved about the pancakes, (will post recipe if anyone wants it) and left at around 11.30. It was a great time actually, most people love our place – it was a gorgeous Sydney day and our view over the ocean is a real thrill to show someone for the first time.

I then managed to get my laundry to the wash-o-matic grab the paper, come home for a quick read and back to the laundry for the wet clothes.

Hung them on the line.

Sat down at the laptop to attack the next book I am writing (in bed, of course) but sent an SMS to YGM2 instead.

Transcript (edited a teeny bit) follows

Dee I am procrastinating, the guests have gone, laundry is clean and drying… Computer is all revved up and ready to go. Can’t decide whether to call you now and put the book off or save you for later as an incentive to get started… Whaddya reckon?
YGM2 Well, saving me for later makes me sound like dessert and I am sweet like it. But hey, we will be able to chat longer.
Dee You are wise, I need to get busy or I’ll get nothing done. If you’ve not heard from me by 3.30, call me, I will need rescuing…
YGM2 Gee – I am getting good … from dessert to saviour in one SMS …

Hmmm… finding myself enjoying this cyber flirting a little too much perhaps…

Anyway, got cracking on the book decided to stuff the word count and worry about it once the story had gelled. I mentioned it was a childrens picture book right? The word limit is 600 words.

Yep – SIX HUNDRED WORDS!!!! Not nearly enough.

So after 2 hours, I had got through the beginning and the middle and was stuck on the end. Decided to call YGM2 for the first actual voice conversation… Yikes. Don’t think about it I told myself – just hit send…

Transcript of phone conversation unavailable.

It was excellent though – after 40mins I made him call me back – I mean, it was on my mobile and Saturday is still considered peak rate (bl**dy telcos). He did … straight away and bang, there goes another 40 mins.

I think this is a promising beginning but I’m still not ready to leap to the face to face meeting. However, I believe YGM2 would jump at the chance… And Yet… a little anticipation could be a good thing … Thoughts anyone?

Anyway, rang off and went back to the book. Finished the ending… Finger hovers over word count button. *Click* 1348 words.

Yikes!
