Site Seeing Down Under

August 23, 2004 by

This top ten is inspired by a googler who found me using the search string above. Thought it might be of interest to someone – the things I consider worth doing in my own back yard. As usual, in no particular order.

1. The Manly to Seaforth Walk.
2. Coffee at Palm Beach
3. A Wander round the Art Gallery of NSW
4. Dinner at the Blackbird Cafe, Cockle Bay
5. Breakfast at Bills 2, Surry Hills (Ricotta Hotcakes … Mmmm)
6. The Balmain Markets on a Saturday morning
7. Exploring the Harbour on a ferry – Watsons Bay, Taronga Zoo, Opera House, Darling Harbor
8. Window shopping in the Strand Arcade and the Queen Victoria Building
9. Revolving city views and a cocktail from the Orit Bar, Australia Square (Summit Restaurant)
10. People watching at Darling Harbour

Sydney is a pretty cool place, I want to do the Bridge Climb sometime but saving that for when my friend Pash comes over from overseas. Want to have a look round a couple of the museums – Australia Museum, Hyde Park Barracks, Jewish Museum. Need to get to the Maritime Museum to get inspired for my latest book too…

The Morning Report

August 23, 2004 by

Sunday came and went with Bliss and me skipping church in favour of hanging with our homies. It was a great time! It was a little embarrassing to admit to people that we had lived there for 2 and a half years and didn’t know anyone… Partly because we live on the top floor with no communal area and they all live on the ground floor and share a yard.

Another quiet week at work looking likely – have nearly finished the website I have been putting together so am very happy to feel as though I have achieved something in the last month. Has been pretty dead other than that little project.

I am the only body in the office today so might have to move upstairs to hang out with some of my friends… There is quiet, and there is TOO quiet!

Thank God it’s Sunday

Stunning Sydney day and where am I?

Inside watching the Olympics!

Happy to report the Kiwis have made it onto the medal table, and with Gold no less … Would never have lived it down if we went home empty handed. I find it amusing that I have been chastised for supporting Australia and funnily enough by Australians – I guess having two allegiances is a bit suspect… However, I am unrepentant.

Yielded to internal pressure to go to church last night. So glad I did, our pastor did not disappoint, delivering another great message. Tonight the preaching is from a very high profile pastor from across town. Should be good to hear him again, he was the first pentecostal pastor I heard who made sense of the Holy Spirit stuff without it being way weird. Not sure I would have ended up in Australia if I hadn’t heard him way back in 1998.

On the home front Bliss and I have been invited to a barbeque for the whole apartment complex down on the front lawn. Not sure if it is in honour of getting together and meeting the neighbours or an invitation for everyone so that no one can complain about the noise… Not sure about going – the evangelical part of me thinks might be a good opportunity to go out into the harvest field – the other part of me feels like I know enough of our neighbours from being able to see in their windows …

Anyway, while I decide I need to go the the laundromat to get the washing back … You would think it would be less trouble to get my machine fixed!!!
