A Comment(ary)

April 16, 2008 by

This whole new Movable Type 4 kinckers drawer (ahem… back end) that I’m using to manage this site these days has introduced a whole new business end as far as comments are concerned…  Here’s a little tutorial in case you’ve been a bit stuck on how to do it!!

You can use the ‘sign in’ option.   For the first time you’ll have to select the ‘sign up’ option and put in all your details and basically sign in to be a member on this site.  I’ll approve you as a commenter and next time you come back it should remember you and you won’t need to put details in in future!

If you don’t wish to sign up to this site then you can sign in anonymously, by which you do your usual name, email, and site info, click remember me and comment as you’ve always done…

The other business of OpenID and so on is a bit of a mystery to me… I’ll figure that out in due course and let you know how it works…

Oh, and if when you’ve signed in to comments and you’re good to go and you want your own little photo/avatar to show up next to your comments you need to go to http://en.gravatar.com/ with your pic in your hand and sign up for your globally recognized avatar… THEN… whenever you sign in with the email address you used to sign up to gravatar it will appear in the comments here (or any other gravatar enabled site)… (oh, and if you have a gravatar that isn’t showing up you might want to check which email address you’re using to sign in here…).

So, there you go… Singular Scene Commenting 101! Now that you know how… why not show me some comment love!!!

Just a Little Crushed

April 15, 2008 by

I can’t remember the last time I saw him.

Actually I remember it I just don’t remember when it WAS.  But it was an uncomfortable encounter (for me) as the topic of conversation tended towards just how in lerv he was and how fabulous internet dating is!

Tough to take when he’d been the object of my affection for far to long to be considered sensible… (yes, the phrase ‘he’s just not that into you’ was applicable).

In any case, I’ve moved on, so too has he… moved on to matrimony and I think I’d seen him 1x in the last 18 months.  I’d only heard vaguely that he was married but it has since been confirmed that a wedding did indeed take place.  Brilliant, jolly good show, old chap.

Not bitter.

Nuh ah…

Anyway, since I moved to my wee garden flat I’ve been in vaguely the same suburb as he had, to my knowledge, been living so I was surprised we’d never bumped into each other.

(You know what’s coming, right?)

That was until about 2 weeks ago.

Turns out he’s living less than a block from my place.  Turns out we can still find plenty to talk about, rugby, work, church etc.  Turns out he STILL looks you in the eye when he talks to you, like you’re the ONLY person in the room/on the sidewalk, turns out he still has the bluest eyes you ever saw.

Turns out I don’t fancy him any more*.

Phew…

J is for John; J is for Jesus

April 10, 2008 by

I’ve been holding off on the J post.  Partly because I was afraid there was no going past a J is for Jesus post and frankly, THAT was one I didn’t want to write.

So I’m compromising.  Which is a little dicey… there isn’t supposed to be any compromise in Jesus.  At least there has been a lot of ‘black and white’ in my background… so if this post finishes before it is.. well… finished… you know I’ve crossed some line and have been struck by a massive lightning bolt or something…

Anyway, back to John… could be anyone but isn’t … it’s this John.

I came across a post from his blog on one of my daily reads, and now he’s one of my daily reads…  I’m impressed by him.  He’s always been one of my favourite songwriters, now he’s one of my favourite bloggers.  He did freak me out a bit by dating Jessica Simpson… proof positive that even really creative intelligent people  do REALLY STUPID things… but he’s probably grown up a bit since then…

He sings this.[Link to iTunes]

Take all of your wasted honor.
Every little past frustration.
Take all of your so called problems,
Better put ’em in quotations.

Say what you need to say (x8)

Walkin’ like a one man army,
Fightin’ with the shadows in your head.
Livin’ up the same old moment
Knowin’ you’d be better off instead

If you could only…Say what you need to say (x8)

Have no fear for givin’ in.
Have no fear for giving over.

You better know that in the end
It’s better to say too much, than never to say what you need to say again.

Even if your hands are shaking,
And your faith is broken.
Even as the eyes are closin’,
Do it with a heart wide open.

(A Wide Heart)

Say what you need to say (x7)

Say what you need to, Say what you need to…

Say what you need to say.

It’s my new favourite song.

My world is teetering.  You’ve probably guessed that if you read this often enough.  I’m not sure what it’s on the edge of.  I’m not sure if it’s the whole turning 40 thing.  I’m not sure if it’s time to leave work. I’m not sure if it’s time to leave Australia, I’m not sure if I’ve given up hope of ever seeing the motherhood dream come to pass. I’m not sure.

I’m just not sure.

I don’t like how this place feels.  I should be talking to Jesus about it.

But I’m listening to John instead.
