Last week I forgot to go to my lecture until 9.20am when Kafx pointed out that I shouldn’t be working, but actually be in class.
Thursday I forgot to go to my tutorial until 4 hours after it was over, and this after ringing the tutor the day before to confirm time and place of said tut.
All term I’d not checked when end of term was, which heralds hand in date was for assessments for distance paper so carelessly neglected, until it came up in conversation today with my passenger on the way home from college.
Guess when the last day of term is?
Friday.
Shit.
Guess what I did tonight? I drove off to Koorong to get the textbook I have to critically review. It cost me $49.95 and I’ll be using it for all of 48 hours… small price to pay for not having to pay a late submission fee… Can I just say, thanks to Koorong for having such ridiculous opening hours? From Monday to Friday they’re open till 9pm. Because, you know, Christians could have a theology crisis at any minute and may need to pop on down to get the latest Bible translation or preachng/praise/worship cd…
Weird.
I’m not complaining of course, saved my [ahem] backside today, it did…
So right now, what am I doing?
Blogging… because this book I have to critically review is only 624 pages and as such I will be able to do it with my eyes closed.
Speaking of which, pull up a chair and pass the speed.
I’m going to be here all night.

Don’t Try This at Home
On any given day in Sydney or any other urban area – or, for that matter, on any point on the land masses of the world, there will be complete idiots in cars driving on the road. This is a fact of life. Most of the time they pass us by, sometimes only just missing, and we shake our heads, or our fists and we move on.
Today (I am horrified to admit) I was one of those complete idiots.
Oh;
the shame.
There is a context, and I will try and paint a fair picture… but the story, well she goes something like…
this.
I was driving home via my cunning, not so secret, back way and in doing so, while minding my own business I must add, became aware of another car very close on my tail. Or more precisely following Dolly, my starlet, far too close for comfort.
I have a tendency when this happens to gently apply the brake, not so much as actually to engage the car in slowing down, but enough to light up the rear of my car in an “I’m about to stop you bloody fool, so back off” kind of way.
This I duly did, to the usual good effect.
However, as I’m the kind of girl who generally drives with her foot gently resting on the clutch I was caught out by the fact I had not engaged my brain in advising my foot to return to the clutch from the brake after application of the aforementioned “back off you idiot” advanced driving technique.
And so, as I approached a traffic lit intersection I went to down-shift gears to slow down.
And slow down I did.
Particularly suddenly.
As in a rubber shedding, ear-splitting, oh-sh*t!, screeching halt.
FORTUNATELY, I HAD applied the “back-off” technique earlier, and I was fairly close to the left hand side of the road (for you US readers, that’s the correct side of the street down here) or else the woman behind me may well have connected with Dolly and caused all manner of damage.
But it was a 60 seconds before I was ready to get back in the flow. And a good 20 minutes before my heart rate had returned to normal.
Which does nothing to make me look less like one of those complete idiots in cars driving on Sydney roads.
At any given time.
5words – a photographic challenge
“So, Kiwi-Fi and I got to thinking the other week, trans-Tasmanly speaking. Just how many cutesy cat/pretty flower/mooing cow photos can one Flickr account have? We needed to stretch our imaginations, you know, be a little bit *finger speechmarks* cre-a-tive. (I shamelessly filched the above directly from Fi’s Blog, becuase, let’s face it, it’s funny…)”
So we formed a Flickr Group called *drumroll* 5words and it works like this…
“Welcome to 5words – a photo challenge for those among us who love both language and photography.
Every other Wednesday we will post the new 5 challenge words for the group. The group members then have 2 weeks to come up with 5 photos, one for each word in the challenge.
This is an open group in which members are invited to contribute words they’d like to use in the group discussion pages. Word submissions close on Sunday evening.
As this is about digital photos, you are welcome to submit images that have been Photoshopped too!
Pornographic material is NOT ok and anyone posting it will be banned.
This information is subject to change as we get a feel for how running groups works and as more people get involved!!!
Welcome to 5words, we can’t wait to see what you can do! Oh, and don’t forget – tag your photos “5words”.
If you’re up for a challenge in the photographic sense, come along and play – our next group of words will be up on Wednesday.
And if you want to see what we came up with for our challenge words this week? Go here…
