Mechanics of Surprise

February 17, 2005 by

I had been putting it off for MONTHS…

I knew it was risky… these things should be attended to for my own safety and the safety of others… but I waited… and waited…

I solicited advice from friends as to how they go about it and still I hesitated… there is so much conflicting information out there…

You see … when you are a singular white female you are a moving target for sharks …

and charlatans…

The last time I did it it cost me $300.00 … when, if I had done it myself the equipment required would have been available for around $50.00…

I got a name of a practitioner from someone I trusted and so last week I called him and booked in.

Today… early in the morning … Dolly and I went to see Flex and with a smile and a wave I left her in his care for the whole day…

I arrived back after work, twitching that the plastic might not stretch far enough and handed it over through clenched fist…

Cha Ching $$$$$$

$149.95 … and not only were the customary bits and pieces like oil and fluid levels taken care of but now Dolly has a tighter hand-brake, her squeaky door is silent and her tyres are black as pitch and all fat and bouncy.

Of course… in 4 weeks she will need new brake pads which will cost around $400.00 but Flex didn’t want to hit me with a bill that big without some time to get used to the idea…

I think I luff him.
