Ugh.
I know, you see a title like that and you wonder if it isn’t just a little too much information. I tell you what, I could do without it… Seems like this problem has been going on for a while and no one had spotted it… I had an inkling when I first moved here that there was something awry but I bought the gear to sort it out and haven’t had any problems since*.
Then it started to rain.
(Nice segue huh? Bet you’re wondering what happens next…)
If you live in/have any connection with NSW Australia or get news from here you’ll have heard about the wild weather. In short it’s been raining for a good couple of weeks, which is unusual… given that we’ve had 4 years of drought…
Anyway, as I went to bed last night (late, after 11) I happened to spot 2 wet patches in the carpet, right next to my bed. I thought to myself, that’s odd… and looked up to the ceiling to see if there were any drips I could accuse of wetting my bed…
No drips.
So I wracked my brains to remember if I’d had a shower and dried off in that place… to which the answer was no. I dried off in the bathroom like normal people and in all honesty that was hours ago… and also unlikely to make quite so much of a puddle.
I sniffed the puddle thinking also that maybe His Lordship had lost control of his bladder in some bizarre set of circumstances… but no… he was as well behaved as always… the offending area smelled like common or garden variety rain water… with an edge of damp/mould about it…
So I looked further under the bed to find that the whole area, about the size of a king size bed was… well, saturated. (Sh*t:Bugger:Poo was all I could think of to say)
How can this be? I hear you cry… well, that’s what I wondered anyway so I did a spot check under the window only to find it dry… so clearly the issue is…
Seepage.
[insert more bad words]
I pulled all the boxes and bags I have storing stuff under the bed and found that other than the cardboard boxes themselves I hadn’t lost anything. Happily most of the stuff was in waterproof containers and what was damp has since been sitting on the rack next to the dehumidifier overnight in a bid to dry out.
But this is the bigger problem… it’s going to need attention from fixer upper type folk… and I have house guests arriving next weekend…
[more here].
Know anyone with a spare ‘oom?
*The house felt damp in those first early weeks so I bought a dehumidifier… seems like it’s no match for storm water…

O for sure… Thanks Antipo! Perfect!

I’d also offer you a room but I fear that I am currently more far away than Ian!
Good luck solving the problem. It’s great to hear that it is raining though (just wish it wasn’t in your house)

Dood, I’ve got no problem with the rain… Loving the rain…
Completely P*ssed off with the leaky house.

And they say that Poms whinge….
No rain for 4 years and they moan. Rain for a copule of weeks and they moan.
They pray for rain and God gives it to them and now they’re unhappy?
Odd race these Ozzies.

Sorry to hear about this – puts our currently miserable weather into perspective somewhat. Hope it gets sorted.
Ian says
If I did, I’d offer: but I’m probably too far away.
Prayers and prayers for a quick resolution.
