Time is Short – So this is a catchup post.

June 25, 2005 by

The Deadline approaches… sign up by midnight Sunday (Wibsite Time).

Tonight’s the night… my Jonah and the Wailers debut. I’m excited about the concert and nervous about my 3 line solo. I would function a lot better if Jonah said… “La, la la la Laaaah. Sing that”… instead it’s a kind of “here are the chords sing something over that”… I am much better directed than spontaneous… Still, it’s only 3 lines and Lex sings the follow up 3 and he will sound great ,so if I blew it no one will remember anyway… All very comforting… Bet will be there and so will Kirk’s family so I know there will be love from the audience which is always A Good Thing!!

Tomorrow is our annual “Show Us the Money” Sunday where the annual commitments to the building fund are collected just in time for the end of the financial year. It’s always an awesome weekend, and whatever your personal thoughts are concerning Pentecostals and giving, to me it feels as though God smiles on that day (among all the other days he smiles). As a staff member my commitment is made in advance and so tomorrow I will be serving Pizza at the celebration carnival. I have managed to second Bet into helping… I am not sure she knows what she’s in for… Still there will be dodgem cars so she can take it out on me when we get a chance to have a crack at em once we have been eaten out of pizza.

Tomorrow afternoon I have to sit down and write a review of an album for our quarterly women’s e-zine. The deadline is next week and as things have changed little since I was a student the deadline serves to get me into action only at the last minute… Happily I have the 1st paragraph written… Hopefully the rest will follow easily… The album I have to review is not one I would have gone out to buy myself… still, it isn’t at all unpleasant to my ear so I anticipate that all should go smoothly..

Other than that, little news… the phone has been cut off due to late payment of the home phone bill.. ooops… So. if you’re family reading from NZ, that’d be why I haven’t called you this morning… Lil’ Sis I tried but couldn’t get through… The bill is actually paid… just not quite in time!!

Doh.

Finally If you haven’t yet signed up for the WISE… Move it or Miss out… (how’s that for direct???) click here and send your address, blog, and objects of desire to join.

Yawn

December 21, 2004 by

There are 12 minutes left before I have to leave the house for work… the radio in the Count’s room is on… a constant since he moved in… at the moment he is alternately singing and praying in tongues … neither particularly melodious I’m afraid… Not that this bothers me of course…

I went to bed before 8pm last night and was asleep very shortly thereafter, this is an extremely rare occurrence, 11pm is more normal and 12.30-1am is not unusal at all… I think my weekend caught up with me… for the record this is what I did… I think it even eclipses the last weekend…

  1. Friday night babysitting-full report in previous post
  2. Saturday morning breakfast at Blue Water with Bet and her friends… a farewell before heading home to Germany for Christmas
  3. Saturday afternoon babysitting in a MANSION in Shelly Beach… totally stunning, a party going on above stairs and me and another nanny looking after 4 under twos… Challenging as one of them was a handful and a half…
  4. Saturday evening collect Charm and Just from the ferry terminal and bring them home before going out to dinner and home
  5. church
  6. out to lunch to hear String play at a local Mexican restaurant
  7. airport to drop off Charm and Just
  8. Church to live stream the service – site was broken so was redundant
  9. bed – thankfully

Charm is a friend from youth group days, and was travelling here to play her instrument for the masses… she is very good at it too, I have been listening to her cd. (Love it babe… thanks!) It was brilliant to totally pick up where we left off and not have any awkward moments given that the gap between setting sight of each other is over 10 years… It’s a very cool thing too when your friends marry people who will be friends too… Just is one of those… Hooray!

So, in all a bl**dy great weekend… roll on the holidays though…

Bu**er , it’s 8.30… see you later

Christmas Ritual

December 14, 2004 by

I made our family’s favourite Christmas Indulgence last week. A morsel referred to in the Edmonds Cookbook (the Kiwi chicks cooking Bible) as Russian Fudge. I can’t make Chocolate Fudge or Coconut Ice, or much else in the confectionery dept but I make MEAN Russian Fudge…

Here’s how

3 cups sugar
1/2 c milk
125g butter
1/2 c condensed milk
1/8th tsp salt
1tbs golden syrup

Put the sugar and milk in a heavy based saucepan and heat gently until the sugar is melted, stirring continuously. Add the butter, condensed milk, salt and golden syrup Stir it until butter is melted [Edited – oops ]and bring to the boil.

Continue boiling till it reaches soft ball stage, only stirring occasionally to prevent sticking to the pan. Remove from heat, cool for 10 mins and beat until thick. Pour into a greased pan, allow cool slightly then mark into squares. Remove from pan when cold and store in airtight container, not in the fridge.

Then eat it…

Share it…

Make more if it…

Eat that too.
