Notes to Wedding Planners

December 12, 2004 by

If you should find yourself embarking on managing such an event as a wedding, either as an event planner or a bride/groom here are a few tips that will make the day less memorable for all the wrong reasons for your guests…

1. Arrange for the bride to arrive less than 45 minutes late…
2. Make sure you give the guests the right address to the reception venue.
3. Choose a venue that has easy access to parking… remember, most of your female guests will be wearing shoes which are not suitable for walking…
4. Cocktail parties are very funky and cool to have for your wedding reception and while your reception venue may also be very funky and cool it is good to note whether there are enough places for abovementioned ladies to sit, especially the pregnant ones…
5. It is also good if the reception venue is a good shape for circulating… it is suggested that square rooms which are dominated by a square, huge bars in the centre of the room may not be ideal, as it also makes it very difficult to get a clear view of the speechmakers during speech time.
6. On the matter of speeches, it is a good idea to have a stopwatch and an agreed length of time in which the speakers MUST finish their oration.
7. Be very careful of who you allow to make a speech. People who think it hilarious to laugh at others people’s expense and will be indiscreet about the wrong things after a couple of wines should be considered a bad choice.
8. On the matter of food, again, cocktail is very funky and cool (and perhaps cheaper than sit down) but it is suggested that there be a) enough food provided for very hungry guests b) waitresses who can remember who they have served and more particluarly, who they haven’t c) something slightly substantial to eat (i.e. more than a gorgeous, delicately prepared morsel) before 10.15pm when the alcohol has been flowing freely since 7…

Enough said

Clean as a State of Mind

December 5, 2004 by

I have the distinct feeling that if Bliss could see the state of this house she would either laugh or be furious… it has never looked so clean, I am sure she had no idea I had it in me!!!

I am reluctant to admit that it is pride that has kept it this way, that and a fear that if the Count caught a glimpse of this place in anything other than pristine condition he would have no problem letting the dishes pile up or leave stuff lying around… As a consequence, the dishes are done the minute they are used and the living room doesn’t even look lived in… I can see that the next 9 weeks are going to make me a much better housekeeper…

Bliss would be so proud…

(By the way, I am feeling rather warm and fuzzy that the Kiwi cricket players beat the Australians today in a one day game. There are few things that make a New Zealander more satisfied … I have lived here for the best part of 6 years and I still can’t support the Aussies (pronounced Ozzys) in sport. We were thrashed by them in the test series so the victory today is even sweeter… )

Enervated

November 19, 2004 by

I have been SO tired this week, with no explanation but for one night when I was sleepless till 2am… It doesnt make sense, I guess I could be eating better and really should make good on my threat to get hold of some Berocca to boost me up a bit… that and some dynamite perhaps… Consequently I have been lacking in inspiration for posting blogs… Would remedy that over the weekend but Ache will be back here tomorrow to use the computer… It is costing her breakfast and dinner so I am reasonably relaxed about it.. I may even go into the office at work and use my new supercomputer to finish off the Singular Girl template… Still learning CSS so that could take some time and using GoLive and Photoshop to do it is an attractive option…

I have a secret that I can’t tell you till Monday, I am DYING to let it out… but I am under contract not to (!!!!) I am feeling very blessed to be put in the path of some very fun opportunities and am taking one up on Sunday… That’s about all I can say about that…

Acutally, I am doing as Yay did this week and posting before work and because doing so has a tendency to make me late, I really should be downing Dell and getting ready for work… Gah
