Alarming

September 28, 2004 by

I am going to set my alarm before I hit the sack tonight… It is getting so light early in the morning at the moment that I haven’t been needing to but last week I forgot to go to our 8am staff meeting and I don’t want that to happen again…

I closed the book of love on YGM2 today … After a failed attempt to phone, I opted for the delicate email … Tragic but true. Wuss thy name is Deeleea… He responded with disappointment and an offer of ongoing friendship – time will tell whether I take up the offer… Not this week anyway, both of us have way too much on.

My “12 steps” to being Well Seasoned have been rather positively received! I got an email from a friend (who reads anonymously) saying hope I didn’t mind but she had passed it on to 3 friends she felt needed to hear it… Was worried about stealing the thunder from my forthcoming book.

What book? Am I in danger of becoming another of those bloggers with books on the brain? Good grief… I would like to give you full permission to tell me to pull my head in if it starts to sounds as though I am falling into that trap…

Of course, I definitely think there is some scope for a singular living type website… Now that I am a Supreme Potentate of Web Publishing I think it might be something fun to play with…

We’ll see …

Sunday Blues

September 26, 2004 by

Did you read Anne of Green Gables as a child?

I did, repeatedly. Still do every time I go back to my childhood home where the complete set sits on the bookshelf. I am nostalgic for it today. Bliss is away and the house has been quieter than a quiet thing. I feel sadly lacking in kindred spirits (if you read Anne you would recognize the phrase) to air my thoughts with. Sigh…

I have a lesson plan for Wednesday mocking me for having had 2 months to plan and only looking at it now. So now I have an 8 week lecture series to prepare for and so am taking the usual road of planning it week by week and hoping for the best. It is 3.27pm, I have church to go to at 6 and I have really only been out of bed since lunchtime. I have never felt less motivated.

Pathetic.

I can’t wait to get back to work tomorrow – how sad is that??? I used to get the Sunday blues at around 7pm when the weekend was nearly over and the thought of work was the depression stick wielded over us.

And now? Work makes the world feel set on the right axis.

Was thinking about ditching church tonight but it might just be the thing to tip me back on the right track.

Word Association (or not)

September 24, 2004 by

On occasion there are certain words in the English language that grab me. I guess I am usually more fascinated by words than pictures. It is probably the writer thing… Do you know the crazy part? I never ‘got’ English in school. Never figured out what it was for. If I had my time over I’d be doing an English Lit major at some university… followed by being a features writer for a magazine.

Anyway, as I said there are words that get me… here are some, they are in random order, they also appeal to me for random reasons, some for sound, some for meaning, some for no other reason that the prospect of turning them over in my mind and mincing them for their content, reshaping them to be used elsewhere; as inspiration, as meditation, as sword or shield. God uses words, both for and against us, I think it’s significant his legacy beyond salvation was a message in print, and that so much of that book has the power to move and change me. As much for the words as the spirit behind them.

Anyway…

1. steadfast
2. obstreperous
3. obsequious
4. serendipity
5. ethereal
6. earth station
7. aroha (a maori word for love)
8. familiar
9. beautiful
10. faithful
11. pilgrim
