Every Day Should Be a Saturday

September 25, 2005 by

I should think that the very best way to start a Saturday is in a cafe with well cooked bacon and eggs. And good company.

The reason I know this is because I had breakfast with Couch at Four Olives Deli today. Actually it was she who had the bacon and eggs, I had a pancake stack… with bananas and passionfruit and a fabulous dollop of King Island Cream…

Add to that a trip to the library where you can get all sorts of literary goodness for nothing… Yep nothing.

ed. except if they’re anything like you don’t take their books back on time…*smirk* Shuddup Ed.

The highlight of the day was neither of these things though. It was a conversation with Red.

I swear that girl and I were separated at birth.

Actually, that’s impossible as there are no fair skinned redheads in our family, but the common ground in our lives is bizarre… And to think, we’ve never met.

As only we can, we talked for the best part of 3 hours… Now that’s a way to wile away the afternoon…

And then? What could possible happen next?

I went and shot dancers…

Yeah yeah… with the Nikon.

Actually, funny story…

I had that niggly thought that perhaps I should check the camera at around 6.30… half an hour before I was due to rock up to the gig.

And as I went to rewind the film in the camera to replace it with the faster roll things did not go according to plan..

Dead battery…

So, where do you go to get a 2CR5 battery on a Saturday night? It isn’t exactly standard issue…

Oh sh*t … dancers to shoot… no batteries… can’t imagine where I could get one…

Quick prayer… HELP!

Answer – the 7:11 type place in Manly…

So, I drive very fast… pop into the shop… yay… 2 brands… one with expiry date and one without… the only expiry date I can find already expired in January…

Sh*t

I decide as is recognizable brand will risk it… and take it to the counter and negotiate 5 dollars off.

Hah

So, I shot the dancers… and so closes the best day I’ve had since coming back from Hawaii…

Thanks Red… you totally rock… even if I did steal the last word!!

Is This the End of the Affair?

September 23, 2005 by

I’m out of love…

Yes with Mr Africa, but that’s another story, and not an unhappy one though you might be forgiven for the odd sympathetic sigh…

No, this is far more serious, I think.

I’m out of love with the Dell. Even though it is sitting on my lap while I write this, and while I still employ it to do my job everyday. I haven’t been turning it on (ooh!) at all outside of work hours.

And you can see the results in my history … No proper new posts for days.

Actually, I suspect it may be something I saw mentioned in Impossible Jane’s blog. PTHD. Post Traumatic Holiday Disorder.

Well, the Holiday wasn’t traumtic so perhaps I have the variant Post Holiday Traumatic Stress Disorder. Because since I came home from Hawaii (and don’t I wish I was back there?) I have been all sorts of out of sorts!!

It started with losing the love for Mr A. Well, more a sort of losing the excitement of internet romance. My sensible side stepped right in and told me off, saying that I was a complete nutter for letting my heart go after someone I’ve never met…Clearly I have agreed, much to my own surprise and, may I say, disappointment.

In a single instant I turned right off the idea. Oh yeah, Aches’s encounter with an internet dating stalker (a long story, and more like a “boyfriend scorned” stalker scenario and truly frightening, right down to police involvement etc…!) might have contributed to my about face.

However, the PHTSD continues on with a whole bunch of dissatisfations and concerns.

Number Two is that I’m bored at work.

If you walked past my office you may be forgiven for thinking that I have no reason to be bored… I have a white board at my desk which lists in details all of the tasks I have on my plate that need completing. But, actually, I am bored with the tasks.

I have completed the The Bigger Than Ben Hur Big Thing information site, which has been a project fraught with angst given that the Embroiderer has been the one driving it and I don’t function well in the kind of environment she brings with her to such projects. But it is done and all I have to deal with are the occasional tweaks and stuff that need need updating!

So, it’s back to the mundane…

The stuff I love doing is the technical stuff. Tweaking and changing the look and feel of a site, or making a flat picture do amazing things with the power of the web. The thing is, I haven’t had much of a chance to do that lately and I am needing some new challenges…

Must be time to dust off those outstanding projects for the busines…

Oh yeah… reason number 3. One of my clients pulled the pin on the job last week… I should be ok with it… I am going to make them pay for where I got up to, which happily is right near the end… But it’s disappointing no one is going to see what I can do!!!

If you are still reading this drivel… I need to sign off so I can get cracking for work, in my current positive (Snarl) frame of mind I am suspecting that Flick has used all the hot water which will add to my already good start to the day.

My day began with a full on dream that my dad had married Couch. Couch, who is less than half his age. For Dad to marry Couch he would have to not be married to Ran, who I like very much. I would be very peeved if he upset her enough to make her leave.

I haven’t woken up that distraught for ages…

Buckle yourselves in people… I think it’s going to be a long day…

TGIF!

Towards Citizen Dee

September 16, 2005 by

Well, I have been on a bit of a learning curve in the last 24 hours.

I have learned…

  • that you can apply for Australian Citizenship online!!
  • …that $120.00 is a bargain for living in a place like this for the whole rest of our life!
  • …that the Ministry of Justice in NZ will send me my wicked secret nefarious past in document form at no cost!!!(Ok, so it’s going to be a very little document…)
  • … that if I hadn’t been here for 12 months before the end of Jan 2001 I wouldn’t be able to apply!!
  • …I have to go for an interview so they can prove that my english is legible/understandable (ok… that’s enough of the Kiwi accent jokes) and that I am going to be a worthwhile addition to the Australian cultural landscape!

I really didn’t expect this all to happen so fast… I really was just perusing online the possibility… and now the ball is rolling!!! Oh…. Boy!

In other news… my boss said that by my becoming an Australian I am improving the average iq of both countries… I haven’t been able to work out if he was being complimentary or not… what do you think?? (which probably illustrates the point… gah)
