Look Out!!

September 12, 2005 by

Hey you!! It’s me!!!

I’m baaaaack…

First and foremost, thanks to Miss Lisa for filling in… Hands up who think the Hardware and Shoe Blog needs to go into full time production of its own? Methinks she’s up to the challenge!!! LOVE the entries… Classic Miss Lisa!!!
Ladies and Gents, you heard it here first… Let’s see if a week was enough to get her addicted…

Anyway…

I had a great time, no doubt bits and pieces of recollections will creep in during the coming weeks… but I blogged into a book a couple of times while I was away… So I’ll start with those.

Brown Study – Sunday September 4th

When did tan crossover the line?

There has to be a point when it stops looking healthy and begins to be totally unnatural… I mean, I’ve seen bodies here blackened to the point I can’t tell some people’s ethnic origin… It’s mind boggling!!

I don’t get it, there’s no appeal for me in burning to a crisp… or looking like I’ve done so!!

Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of colour like the next girl and colour bought at Waikiki what could be better? But…

Sitting on a beach constantly, week after week, for no other reason than damaging your body beggars belief…

(Ah.. ok… while I’m here, I’ll give it a shot!!!)

*grin*

At the risk of sounding cliched ….. Thank God it’s FRIDAY!!!!

September 9, 2005 by

For no other reason than I have only one thing set for the weekend (Saturday night church) and I am SO looking forward to getting out and setting up my balcony for Spring, tidying up around the pool, planting my 2 blood oranges and my tahitian lime in their gorgeous half wine barrels, and more domestic things which we will not go into here.

It’s supposed to be 27C tomorrow which will be lovely – note to Smudgie :), you might be men and women of steel when it comes to cold water …. but in the heat? please, 25C and you’re all dying of heatstroke :), come and visit me in February when we’re guaranteed to get three or four days in a row over 40C – and this from a woman who’s a gold medallist when it comes to sunburn :). Ah, what would the lifesavers do at Bondi without all the British backpackers dropping like flies from the heat …..

Anyhoo …. sun, pool, gardening, friends, cups of tea, maybe the odd Corona (yum!), oooo and I’m finally going to get my bike sorted out so I can add it to my gradual (very) increase in fitness level … quite honestly, I think the first time I ride it round the block it’ll be a complete dog’s breakfast … I have visions of getting half way round, hitting the hill and walking the rest of the way, then passing out on the lounge for an hour or two to recover! And don’t tell me to ride the other way round so I can go DOWN the hill – there’s two hills!!!! I can’t win! Oh well, I have ambitions to get fit and am actually doing something towards it, so that’s one step further than I’ve gone for a looooonnnngggg time :)

Apologies for the overdoes of exclamation marks … I think it’s going to be a very loud drama queen kinda day in the old graphic design studio!

Shoe of the Day: old faithful blue 1inch heeled thongs … today is the day i go a-hunting for a couple of pairs of gorgeous heeled thongs to replace them … they’ve been reheeled, resoled, relined, glued, tacked … everything you can think of … but I think the time has nearly come to consign them to the great shoe graveyard …. yes, they’re so well used i can’t even pass them on to St Vincent de Paul for charity … faithful friends ….. :(

Thoughts and Prayers

September 8, 2005 by

In the midst of all my usual blathering, I’d like to take a minute to remind us all of those who are suffering from the aftereffects of Cyclone Katrina. Like I said previously, if we’re praying and doing all we can practically we should not be feeling guilt at the sufferings that are happening … but that doesn’t preclude sympathy and empathy and LOTS of prayer. It’s a horrible horrible time for all those people, not only those who are still waiting to be rescued, but those who are in the Texas Superdome with nowhere to call home, the Australians who are just coming back who have seen murders and rapes, the little children who have lost their parents, the poor old people who are unable to assist with their own rescues but just have to rely on the goodness of others, the soldiers who are trying to keep order in the streets, the medical personnel who will be just now beginning to fight what is looking to be an almost unimaginable battle against sickness and disease … our hearts and prayers go out to them all.

And the state is a TINDERBOX!!!! – part 2!!

September 8, 2005 by

Don’t blame me, that was a blip in the FABULOUS supply of electricity we have in this building! er-herm (clearing throat), as I was about to say …

Oh frabjous day, calloo, callay!!! I think that’s from Alice in Wonderland, not sure, maybe someone can enlighten me, but it’s how I feel about today – it’s a gorgeous day in Sydneytown, brilliant sunlight, crisp clean Spring air, supposed to hit 24C (and it’s only the 8th day of Spring!) …. forecast to be 27C on Saturday!!!! oooweee, it’s going to be a loooong, HOT, summer!!!

Well, I appear to have successfully fought off any flu bugs in the vicinity, hooray, am feeling FABulous today … hope I can keep it up! My household has been busily organising for a bash we’ve flinging in November … have you ever tried to get five chicks to sit down and work out dates, food, etc? Good grief … much hilarity and not much organising I’m afraid – but at least we’ve got the wording for the invite done :)

As for the heat … well, we’re still in drought, water restrictions are going to be even harsher, we’ll hear the above title on the radio/tv news EVERY DAY for the next 5 months, there will 1/2 hourly updates on the bushfires (because all indications are that this Spring / Summer is going to be a THRILLER [mild sarcasm there] for all the firies, the cicadas are going to explode they’ll be singing so loudly, and the smell of eucalyptus will be everywhere – I LOVE IT!!!!! … I’m a cold weather girl really, grew up in the mountains, but for some reason I am just bubbling over with anticipation for summer this year … maybe God’s trying to subtly tell me something? I’ll have to give Deeleea a bulletin to update if anything terribly exciting happens!

Okay, off to work, must pretend to be busy :)

But before I go …

Shoe of the day: I have revised my feelings re yesterdays pink shoes … I’d forgotten about the ones I’m wearing today, which I dug out last night. They’re two season old, Mollini, gorgeous and SO comfortable … especially when you consider they’ve got 3.5inch heels (that’s 9cm for those of us who are metric) … They’re round toed (of course), strap below the ankle, basically open from the base of the toes up …. guess you’d call them an open court? … I’m a shoe addict but not necessarily with all the correct terminology! … anyhoo … chocolate brown heels, chocolate brown toetip, chocolate brown around edge of toes … with wedge of luscious maroon intersecting the edge and tip … and smack on top of my third toe ‘cleavage’ is a purple piece … sounds kind of an odd combination but it all marries beautifully … these are that pair of shoes that every girl really wants to have … the one that even the guys like! I must give a shoutout to my Kiwi Buddy, who shall be known as The Old Man – he’s a man who unashamedly loves everything about women … and not in a creepy urky way … and he notices things … hair, handbags, clothes … and shoes! He’s definitely the best man for your ego I’ve ever known .. so here’s to you Old Man, love ya babe!!!!
