If it ‘aint broke, break it… and fix it… and break it again.

May 13, 2005 by

There are those of us who learn well by sitting in a lecture hall and having someone tell us how to do stuff. Aural Learners…

Nah … not me.

There are some who learn by watching someone do something and matching them. Visual learners…

Not me neither…

There are those who read the manual … *chokes*

Then there are those who learn by doing it. Practical Learners … Doing it right… Doing it wrong… Either’s good..

Yeah Baby.. that’s me… I broke one of my new sub sites at work [real job] twice today… Bit of a headache putting it back together… thanks be to the Baby Cheeses for backups… but I am getting the hang of it.

My boss knows this about me and he knows how powerful frustration is as a means of getting me off my behind to get what I want done. So he has been keeping himself so busy he can’t help me get the next leg of the project underway. He figured that I’d get fed up with waiting and I’d take the bull by the horns and do it myself.

He’s a smart man… I did. And like I said, I broke it… twice… and fixed it twice too… and it feels right good to have figured it all out by myself.

Now I have lots of lovely work to do next week… (!)

Hanging Out…

May 12, 2005 by

I have broadband *big happy smile*

I it. I really really it.

But… it has its limits… 400mb to be precise… That’s not much when you buy your first album to put on your precious and you spend a week working from home. In fact I had used 100% of my allowance in the first 5 days.

Now, happily I don’t have to pay for excesse usage… things… just… sloooowwwww….down… a whole lot… I got so over it I ordered the next package up… A plan the telco is anticipating… so much so they don’t tell you that you don’t get your upgraded speed till the beginning of the next billing period… So… things are still reeeaaaalllly slow… and I have 5 [count them 5] days to go…

I’m so over it.

But I have a renewed sympathy for those still on dial up…

Really.

Everybody Loves Raymond

May 11, 2005 by

I had an unexpected windfall today.

A found watch handed in was never claimed.

And now ’tis mine…

Raymond made it…

I love Raymond.

Ta Daaaaaa

May 10, 2005 by

The phone rings,

“hello, this is Dee”

“Hi Dee, this is Marmot, I work for [big paying client]. I have a problem with my email”

“Right, ok, what seems to be the problem?”

“I can send email to my colleagues, I can receive email, but I can’t send email externally. I get an error message.”

“Ok, try …”

“Can you come over?”

“hmmmmm… Not until after work [real job]”

“that’s fine… See you then”

Wasn’t part of my plan for the evening actually Still, I love a challenge, and as [big paying client] is my first installation with my new host a few idosyncracies were to be expected.

I did a bit of research, went around to [big paying client]’s place and checked the right boxes thereby solving everyone’s problem, (because Marmot was the only one who had figured out that it wasn’t working… very techno savy…)

I have to say it feels very good to be able to fix ickle problems like that. I was a bit chuffed with myself!

I raced off home with just long enough to stop to buy a can of Big Red and heat it up so I wasn’t singing on an empty stomach at Jonah’s practice.

Actually, does anyone know the song “His Eye is on the Sparrow”? We are singing it at choir and there is a discrepancy regarding the line “When Jesus is my portion” Is this the correct lyric? Or is it “When Jesus is my potion”?

Jonah sings potion and I can’t bring myself to do it. Because he got the lyrics off the web I believe he thinks it must be correct. So I need some external input. I think Jonah also believes that potion makes more sense, not being a church going brother and not ever having heard Jesus referred to being one’s portion, which, on balance sounds weird but seems to sound religious, at least through my early experience as a Methodist child.
