Promise Keeping

March 16, 2005 by

Smudgie rightly pointed out that I had been remiss in adressing the reasons that Rev and I have parted company.

Actually, it isn’t just Rev I have parted company from. I have, in fact, put the agency babysitting work on hold!! Hooray! There are a couple of clients I am happy to return to, (well, just one actually) so I will have first refusal of going to them, but basically I have one private client I go to and one agency client. And that is all.

Did I hear you ask why I have put the agency on hold?

Well… it’s because I landed the contract to build 2 websites… And it’s a big contract!! So big I have had to register my business name, get a business bank account, an ABN number and actually start taking this work seriously.. Yikes? Yes… Yikes indeed!

So, I have sent an invoice for 1 quarter of the money I will be expecting from this new client and it took me 3 days to send because the amount of it was so scary that I had to convince myself that I actually desereved the money.

You see, this is the 1st time in my life that I have skills that are more valuable than babysitting at $16.00 per hour.

I really feel the favour of God on the whole situation. I haven’t had to advertise for any business at all. In fact someone else has contacted me and asked me to give him a quote on doing the web interface for 2 sites and then for sale and install of a content management system. I quoted too high… Way too high… because I was busy and hadn’t really quizzed him on what he needed but we are still talking about the work and look like we might be able to come to an arrangement that suits… which is very cool and of course… means more work!!!

THEN… I met up with another contact here who had done some design for one of our departments which I had turned into web content… He was so impressed with what I had done he is planning to give me work as well…

So, my plans for my own website are on hold because I couldn’t handle any more work than I have been offered without advertising!!

So, after spending 3 Saturdays with him,I had to prioritise all the stuff in my world (real work, fun work, home, card playing, Jonah and blogging) and Rev could well have become the straw that broke this camel’s back…

There’s Something about Monday

March 14, 2005 by

Time Check: 11.34am…

All is quiet, everyone is getting on with working and making the most of the bosses being away. It’s casual Mondays here… not Fridays.

I am anticipating lunch… have achieved very little as need the boss’ undivided attention to achieve anything today and, after a week off sick, he is trying to catch up on his work…

So, I am blogging and anticipating my favourite 2005 tradition for Monday Lunch.

Thai.

Yum… me and Shoe and Brad go to lunch at Thai Garlic. Mmmmm… mmmm…. mmmm. The best picks off their menu for nine bucks each…

Because I have decided that it is bad form to have the same thing twice, todayI can’t have… Penang Curry, Green Curry, Red Curry, Larb or Chicken and Cashews…

Oh well… I might have to go for the fat noodles… or Pad Thai… or … oh… roll on 12.30…

A Trip Down The Memory Superhighway

March 13, 2005 by

I happened to be in the kids section at the library with Rev on Saturday and came across a copy of this. Looking back on my life I see that this is the game that made me acutely aware of how much I loved computers and what they could do. It may even have fostered my interest in geography and international travel and cultural exchange…

You will see from the cover that it is a game for ages 9-12… Well… I wasn’t exactly 12 when I first saw it… I was babysitting kids who had it but I could never wait for the call to come and sit so that I could play and maybe… finally… catch Carmen.

I never did; time and space moved on and games got more complicated and unbelievable (Myst… Riven… Exile… and now Revelation! My latest game loves…) but Carmen was my first.

So, I grabbed the disc and slotted it into the Dell, all anticipation… and hit install…

All looked to be progressing normally until I opened up the programme ready for a trip down memory lane…

Busted.

I need and older slower computer.

!

Happily Flick has just the right, old, slow machine and now were are happily following Carmen San Diego round the world.

It’s still fun… I wonder if I’ll actually get her this time!!
