Hi Ho, Hi Ho, to Queensland I Will Go!

March 3, 2005 by

I’m off out the door in 20 and am checking in to say “Check Ya Later”

Yay, I am leaving Dell behind… that will be a big holiday for him – more so than the sunny Queensland climes!!! He will be well rested by the time I get back…

As will I.

See you Tuesday.

South African Music Week

March 2, 2005 by

You may have not noticed that it is South African Music Week … that’s probably because, unless by some strange coincidence it IS South African Music Week where you are it is not something that exists in any official capacity as far as I know… However, I am pleased to report that it IS Sth African Music week where I am…

The reason it is South African Music Week (henceforth referred to as SAMW ) here is twofold… Monday was Jonah practice and I am delighted to report that we are singing 3 African melodies at the concert on April 2nd (which I won’t be at… *sniff*) and today I received 2x cds from Red to showcase every good thing about South African music, seeing as she is a South African herself.

As long as I can remember I have loved African music. Muvver had “The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)” on vinyl as I was growing up and I loved it… When Paul Simon released Graceland I fell in love with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and was privileged to hear them 3x when I was living in England in the ’80s. And finally, my all time favourite African music album is the soundtrack to “The Power of One.” Sometimes I shut all the doors, turn out the lights and play Mother Africa at full bore. Let’s face it, I am a harmony junkie.

Imagine my joy at rehearsal on Monday when I heard we will be learning
Senzenina
. Rapture – and torture that I will not be in Australia to perform it… Still getting it in rehearsal is enough to give me goosebumps… I get so excited sometimes I embarass myself with the happy deeleea dance or a whoop at inopportune moments.

Still… people get used to me eventually…

Anyway, the other reason this week is SAMW is the cds that Red sent me. They have been a long time coming but Red is up there with Jack in the procrastination stakes… Happily, she is as good as her word (which would make her an ideal employee if you were looking for someone to hire) and [just quietly] any kind of music from alien places (even Africa via Baltimore) is totally worth the wait…

I haven’t had a chance to hear them yet, I only cleared the mail just prior to bedtime… but I can’t wait… it is all I will be playing in the office tomorrow that’s for sure!!!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

February 28, 2005 by

It is not normally in my nature to be spontaneous. I am reasonably measured about deciding to do things, particularly where there is the exchange of cash involved. So you may be surprised to know that this morning I spent some time surfing the web for airfares to go for a visit to see Bliss. Imagining that I may go up in a few weeks, we had talked about trying to find a weekend when I could go up and spend some time in her new house.

The thing is, I have been missing her rather dreadfully. I have been cranky and touchy for weeks and haven’t been friendly to the boys and girls I work with. I really was due a couple of days off and wasn’t going to last until Easter, or until I got to NZ, which has it’s own challenges and stresses…

So, I was scoping out airfares, thinking about Bliss and the fact that she is on holidays this week and I had that thought, the one that says “you know, there’s really was no reason you couldn’t take a couple of days out of your annual allowance and go up to see her while she’s on break…”

I batted my eyelashes at the boss who said I could have Monday and Friday off… (I think he is nice to me given the last boss I worked for) and then rang Bliss.

She practially dropped the phone.

I’m thinking I might even leave the laptop at home..

Oooh now that’s scary.

Do Good Two

February 26, 2005 by

You may (or may not) remember the Do Good Day Out with Rev back in January. I had the opportunity to spend the day with him again today, and after the big night out last night was feeling less than enthusiastic when I rocked up to his house at 9am ready for an 8 hour day… On the weekend…

I must be insane.

Rev was in fine form as usual, he has the happy knack of being able to recall any number of quotes from the various movies he has seen over the years (or over and over…). This is a clever thing, however he employs it to keep up a constant stream of coversation … with himeslf. I swear if it wasn’t so damn tragic it would be hysterical, in small doses…

As it was, it was for 8 hours.

I’m such a selfish bitch. He really does enjoy his day out with me, I get paid reasonably well for it and my expenses are compensated. So I look at my life and think, one day in a month is really no great hassle to give the kid a good time. And honestly, I do have one myself… I think I am tired and hormonal…

Anyway, on today’s entertainment menu; I had borrowed Kirky’s Play Station in case Rev was game for an afternoon of playing (pun intended), we went to the mall and watched Racing Stripes – the best bits of which he repeated to me all afternoon… I took him for a swim at one of the local beaches. We had lunch at the ubiquitious McDonalds, every child’s choice for a fancy lunch out… we also attempted a ride on his bike up Manly Beach… he is reluctant to move his legs much and seemed inclined to have me push… (I refused and he got off an pushed the bike around instead!) and we finished off the afternoon playing Crash Bandicoot for an hour.

Now? It’s 7.03pm and I… am… knackered.

I am booked in for another Rev go round in 2 weeks… As other news includes a possible contract to build 2 websites I might have to put the next Rev’s big day out on hold…

Do you know anyone who wants a big day out with a little fella??
