The Morning Report

August 23, 2004 by

Sunday came and went with Bliss and me skipping church in favour of hanging with our homies. It was a great time! It was a little embarrassing to admit to people that we had lived there for 2 and a half years and didn’t know anyone… Partly because we live on the top floor with no communal area and they all live on the ground floor and share a yard.

Another quiet week at work looking likely – have nearly finished the website I have been putting together so am very happy to feel as though I have achieved something in the last month. Has been pretty dead other than that little project.

I am the only body in the office today so might have to move upstairs to hang out with some of my friends… There is quiet, and there is TOO quiet!

Thank God it’s Sunday

Stunning Sydney day and where am I?

Inside watching the Olympics!

Happy to report the Kiwis have made it onto the medal table, and with Gold no less … Would never have lived it down if we went home empty handed. I find it amusing that I have been chastised for supporting Australia and funnily enough by Australians – I guess having two allegiances is a bit suspect… However, I am unrepentant.

Yielded to internal pressure to go to church last night. So glad I did, our pastor did not disappoint, delivering another great message. Tonight the preaching is from a very high profile pastor from across town. Should be good to hear him again, he was the first pentecostal pastor I heard who made sense of the Holy Spirit stuff without it being way weird. Not sure I would have ended up in Australia if I hadn’t heard him way back in 1998.

On the home front Bliss and I have been invited to a barbeque for the whole apartment complex down on the front lawn. Not sure if it is in honour of getting together and meeting the neighbours or an invitation for everyone so that no one can complain about the noise… Not sure about going – the evangelical part of me thinks might be a good opportunity to go out into the harvest field – the other part of me feels like I know enough of our neighbours from being able to see in their windows …

Anyway, while I decide I need to go the the laundromat to get the washing back … You would think it would be less trouble to get my machine fixed!!!

I Totally Lied

August 21, 2004 by

Well, the scammed scanning was all over by 11 – My babysitting job got canceled this afternoon so I went out … quite against my plans to do so.

I returned books (5) to the libraries (2) and got more (4).
I spontaneously decided to go to the movies and saw Connie and Carla – loved it. (It’s ok… I know that I am a tragic loser who loves show tunes and romantic happy endings and I’m ok with that.)

I now need to decide what to do with my evening.

I think I will go to church. The meeting goes from 6-7.30 and is therefore the shortest meeting of the week except the prayer meeting. Our Pastor is back from 3 weeks overseas and so will be on fire. I love a good homecoming message and if I go tonight, I don’t feel compelled to go tomorrow morning so I can sleep in.
It has been a few weeks since I have been to church and to be honest, I am in that, if I don’t go this week it will be even harder to get back into it next week… I guess spending all week there makes the weekends extra precious…

Anyway, I will probably go and put paid to the internal argument. Of course if I drink another beer before I go I will be in trouble. I can imagine the little police type person at the random breath testing asking me where I am going … Can you hear him?? “What???? You’re going there??? In that state??? Hmmm probably best place for you love …”

Happiness, Peace and Joy

August 20, 2004 by

It’s the weekend and I am happy … Yep, two whole days filled with whatever I want to do. Couldn’t be more ecstatic… Well, I could actually, but I don’t expect to be!!!

The end of the week has been gratifying. I have been working on fixing up the website for my alma mater. The college I studied at is part of the outfit I work for and they have been getting left behind in cyber space. I have been fooling around with html and image editing to knock it into shape. It has been great fun and a creative escape from my usual administrative merry go round. Should be ready to upload next week, very nice to have something concrete to show for my hours buried in the basement at work!!

As for tomorrow, I have scammed a scanner from the office (shhhhh) and plan to get all my favourite photos into digital format so I have plenty of fodder for my flog. Heaven on a stick… (except it isnt on a stick at all actually, more like a table…) So if you see someone out and about tomorrow, it won’t be me … Nope .. home all day …

Actually I will have to leave the house tomorrow. I will be sitting on babies tomorrow night… actually not babies at all, in fact 3 rather fun children aged from 7-12. 2 girls and one little boy who has asked me to marry him… hasn’t that 7 year old got a thing or two to teach the grown up boys!!! Cable TV, a washing machine that works (mine doesn’t) and money for having a good time and watching telly… Baby, I’ve got it made!

Don’t expect me up before 9 tomorrow, the earplugs are going in and the electric blanket is on…

*Lights out*
