Harry and the New Boots

July 18, 2004 by

Black boots … practial yet alluring … unless of course made invisible by favourite jeans.

Movie commenced at 8.45 … Date arrived at 9.00… (Good excuse as was playing in church service).

Realised upon setting eyes on him (tickets burning hole in jacket pocket) very nice man but no flicker of fancy …

Bummer.

Scurry downstairs to cinema anyway…

Don’t recall much of Harry as too busy concentrating on how to conjour up feelings of fancy. (No… NOT for Harry for date who shall be called Not John (for his own protection)). I mean, has been so long since last date, if plan not concocted could be first and last date forever …

Movie ends.

Trek 2 flights of stairs back to entrance.

Can’t speak. (Must go back to the gym … and not just gym cafe… (well, at least until practised more stair climbing)).

And so to awkward closing …

D: “Well, thanks for coming”
NJ: “Thanks for the invite”
D: “So, heading away for the weekend?”
NJ: “Yes, and you, another week of holiday?”
D: “Yes”
NJ: “My car’s parked this way ->”
D: “Mine’s that way <-”
NJ: “Well, I guess I’ll see you back at work then”
D: “Will do. Bye!
NJ: “Bye”

Laughed all the way home…

Still laughing…

Had a chat to God and he was laughing too! Not AT poor tragic first daters but all gooey and gushy and proud at us giving it a go.

Bliss asks “So what’s next?” (personally I think she is getting very pushy …) However… now that she mentions it have been offered free trial of Godly Online Dating Site … (G.O.D.S). Might give that a go.

Will keep you posted…

The Date on Tuesday

July 16, 2004 by

My excuse for such out of character behaviour was that I was on holiday and feeling brave … Of course I was egged on by my flatmate who was in awe and wasn’t feeling exactly brave herself…

I picked up the phone …

Tapped in the text …

Hesitated …

Bliss (my flatmate) yelled at me “Send… Send… Send…”

So I did

Send…

I guess you are wondering what I sent…

It goes something like this

“Are you interested in seeing Harry Potter this evening?”

This would not be so out of character except that the recipient was a boy…

A single one…

A nice single one…

He said …

YES …

Oh God… Help… I need new shoes

Laptop Vacation

July 15, 2004 by

It has been said to me in the past that I will never meet anyone unless I get out more .. Complete rubbish.

I am holidaying at home this week. As such I am feeling perfectly justified in sitting up in my bed with its stunningly gorgeous pristine white (ok, so its brand new…) duvet cover and my laptop on my lap … (I mean… where else???).

Have laptop: will meet completely gorgeous, total strangers (who are NOT axe wielding maniacs!).

I would… If I actually signed up or logged in instead of browsing “anonymously” … So call me chicken… Knowing my luck, I’d meet the one axe wielding maniac.

Sigh.

Im 36, single (never married), gorgeous in a comfortably upholstered kind of way and slightly mystified by the number of single women in my circle of friends who are more gorgeously smashing than me and also are without “significant others”. One of said women described us as “a living monument to the stupidity of men.” Somewhat inflammatory perhaps?

Happily, I am an optimist bolstered by the following positively reinforcing, affirmations… (There is no copyright applicable to them, so feel free to print them off and use them indiscriminately …)

“Time has NOT run out until I am dead”
“The grass is always greener on the other side of the altar”
“As long as there is chocolate I can do without sex – (for now)”
“If I love me, for me, someone else will”
“This is only a season … I repeat, this is only a season,”

Like I said, an optimist … I have a good life, gorgeous habitat, intelligent and witty friends, challenging career, nieces and nephews and godson to indulge my maternal urges over and a community of faith that is the bomb. Life is good. I actually often wonder how much having a significant “other than my footy watching mates” kind of boy on the scene would complicate rather than complement …

Still… not opposed to finding out …
