Blarg!
Morning all (just), I am struggling today … there has been a terrible flu going around Sydney of late, which 3 of my 4 flatmates have had and I am determined NOT to get … despite the gorgeous day I am at work with a temperature and a chest which feels like elephants have been tapdancing … i am DETERMINED not to give in to the flu :) …
On a lighter note … i managed to get the rotten pool cleaner working this morning! Yes, the minutiae of life in the ‘burbs include having a rental house with 5 loos (one for each girl, VERY important) and a pool … which is fabulous but unfortunately our financial states do not run to having a pool boy so guess who’s cleaning it this month? Generally a job I quite enjoy to be honest, outside under the gumtree, skimming the surface, it actually is quite meditative, I’ve had quite a few good chats with God out there … but at present, the pool cleaner is being a complete pain, and therefore the bottom of the pool is covered in leaves. Not such a bad thing in summer when you can jump in and scoop them out … but now? the water temp is about 16C … I grew up swimming in cold pools in the mountains but 18C is about my limit I’m afraid. Oh well, domestic bliss would probably get boring after a while :). Still, it’s working now and hopefully will continue to do so tonight …
Shoe of the day: dark pink Mary Janes with 2 inch heels and round toes … possibly my favourite pair of shoes of all time. Miss Lisa’s gratuitous advice to girls with ‘robust’ feet … round toes make the feet look smaller and sexier …. if you’ve got canoes please don’t go for the pointy toes …
A post from Over the Ditch
Ssshh! *sneaks in, cases the place, drinks the milk straight from the bottle and puts it back in the fridge*
Fi from Kiwifruit here, doing the guestpost bit.
Looks like Deeleea’s still sunning herself on the beaches of Hawaii and sipping exotic drinks with tiny umbrellas and maraschino cherries floating in them.
Lucky, lucky her!
In Big News from Deeleea’s country of birth, it’s the thrice-yearly general elections coming up in one week’s time. It’s the first time I’ve voted since 1993 – not because of apathy, but because I was out of the country each time.
The first time I was living in Manly, Sydney in a cockroach infested apartment with an Aussie truckdriver. It was an eye-opener, living in another country. All those insects! All those loud birds! (crows, cockatoos, rosellas – Australian birds are so noisy!) and all those Aussies with their funny accents!
But the best part about Australia? Charcoal Chicken. There’s one on every main street and boy do they make the best chicken ever.
And the second and third times I was living in London, but that’s another story.
Anyway, I’d better get out of here before I start to waffle on about the good old days.
Have a great day!
And it’s Tuesday ……
What do we say about Tuesday? Well today, we say Hooray!!!! Ever have one of those days when you wake up and everything is instantaneously all right with the world? It’s a beautiful Spring day and I have mad verses running through my head (I know, I’m getting trippy on pollen!) … Spring is here, the grass is riz, I wonder where the flowers is? … go with me people, it’s a beautiful day!!!
Ok, ok, raptures over, I AM writing this at work after all, and I have a GLORIOUS day of accounts ahead of me … but I have turned over several new leaves in the last couple of days, which I think can be explained by two sayings which have also had an impact (I’m not normally hugely poetic, but sometimes things just stick!) …. 1 – “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us” Joseph Campbell and 2 – ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got’ Anonymous … impressive grammar on the last one but hey, who said revelation had to be word perfect?
No 1 just struck me completely last night … it’s from a devotional called Gardening for the Soul by Sister Stanislaus somethingorother … and it just sounded so absolutely spot on .. exactly what we should be doing … taking a deep breath and letting God give us all the glorious things He has planned, listening to where He’s directing us, and taking our inheritance … not constantly fighting against Him and doubting the possibilities because they may take us out of our comforable little zones … this is not to say that we completely abandon all common sense of course! … but I get such a sense of freedom from being reminded, yet again, that God’s plans for me are bigger, better, and infinitely more satisfying than anything I can come up with myself! Too cool!!
No 2 … just sensible really … one of those ‘duh!’ moments!
Have a gorgeous day wibblers, it’s a wonderful world! [that’s not to say there aren’t terrible things happening around the world – but if we’re praying and doing all we can to make it a better place, we’re doing all we can – no more guilty feelings!’]
Shoe of the Day: Old faithfuls (which are looking much the worse for wear!) … resoled, reheeled, ‘work thongs’ … 1 inch heel, lovely blue suede straping across the top of the foot and for the thong ‘bit’ … comfy, smart, and sadly, almost at the point of no repair … must find a new pair!
