Of shoes and hardware shops ….

September 5, 2005 by

Hello wibblers, ’tis Miss Lisa here, I am in control!!! Whilst the gorgeous Deeleea basks on the beautiful shores of Hawaii (not jealous … truly …) she has very bravely handed over access to her blog to me … which could be scary except for the fact that I’m all talk no action, so I will be nice :) – I promise! It’s a big responsibility to be handed a blog, I’m a tad overwhelmed – and greatly honoured of course!

So, who is Miss Lisa, you may ask? I’m sure a few of you know me from comments on your blogs … and I’ve had the great honour of meeting Orthodox Ian and gorgeous Semele in the flesh … but a few descriptive words … average height, rubenesque (on a good day!), brunette (generally – currently red, brown and gold), green eyes, admin type (workwise anyway), singer (but not in Semele’s league), reader, unashamed Imelda complex, minor fixation with hardware shops, definite fixation with books and gardening …. hmmm … daughter, sister, aunty, godmother, good friend, blunt, high expectations, sentimental, building up to being active person (from total SLOTH) … and a complete ‘gonna’*! I’m a transplanted country girl living in Sydney, caught between two worlds .. I love the country life, but thoroughly enjoy living in the ‘burb’s .. close to the city, the beach, and the mountains … best of all worlds.

Enough about me, time to get to work … luckily for me, my boss never hits the office before 9:15am so plenty of time to chat before he gets in :).

Shoe of the Day: (this is for you Semele!) 2inch heel, slingbacks, Prince of Wales tartan, pointy toed, large silver buckle across base of toes with long silver buckle – the only pair of shoes to which I possess the matching handbag – very Jackie O!

* ‘gonna’ … I’m a gonna do this, I’m a gonna do that … sometimes I actually do!

Dead Lines

September 1, 2005 by Dee

I gave someone a piece of my mind today… Not something in my usual repertoire of behaviour…
I felt it was warranted…
The story is this. I am a web administrator which is short for “wicked genius with code and stuff”, or if you prefer, Web Princess … (Web Mistress is soooo S&M). As such, I am called upon not only to update the site for which I am responsible, but also to create new subsites or sections of the site for different departments.
Or, in this case, for any one of the Big Things that we may be doing. This Bigger than Ben Hur Big Thing has warranted it’s own site and as is customary the dept ordering said site was advised of the 2 weeks of lead time required. This means, provide me the content now and I will use those two weeks to make you a beeyoootiful site.
Yeah Right… who listens to the Web Princess?
And so, lead time ignored, there have been empty spaces for content all over the site and 2 DAYS before the deadline the whole menu tree was changed and presented to me to complete… Bloody Hell it’s the 1st of September today .. The Boss has been telling everyone to check out the site today!!
VERY UNHAPPY Web Princess.
6.15pm I am going on holiday TOMORROW and instead of proofing and link checking I am still putting content in. You get the picture right? Panic. And here’s me needing desperately to head to the mall to get the last few things required for the Hawaiian Odyssey…
Temperature Rising…
For 2 days, aware that this deadline was going to catch up with me, I have been touchy and very cranky at Embroiderer who is responsible for supplying me with the stuff.
She was late.
Later than a Late Thing.
MELTDOWN
It isn’t all her fault and she has worn the crankiness reasonably well and after my very direct discourse (read RANT) on how the lateness affects me, how unprofessional it is, and how unfair to have such ridiculous expectations, she has a much clearer idea of how the site is put together and how slow it can be. And how reliant I am on her to make it all work!
I felt a lot better having delivered that piece of my mind… But of course, tomorrow we have to send the e-card to our massive database to let everyone know the information is now available online…
That should only take 2 business days…
Oh yeah.. the DeadLine is 4pm.

Deeleea’s the Name, Procrastination’s the Game

August 31, 2005 by

Ok, Mr Africa and I have said our goodbyes for the week, though that didn’t stop him checking in to see if I was online while I was working late this evening… I was good and kept working rather than skiving off yakking away… I’ve spent several hours chatting in the last little while… Time to get, well, shall we say.. back on track!!!

Of course, what I SHOULD be doing is putting all my stuff together to pack…

sheesh… stuff that…

I’ve some blogging to catch up on… haven’t I?

I took a trip on Sunday a bit of a long drive to Canberra. 3.5 hours from home in pursuit of a bit of an ebay bargain!!!

I snagged a Nikon camera, 2 lenses and Speedlight flash for the bargain price of $183.30. Worth the $40 petrol to get there. It was a bummer though… I got home to find the camera body doesn’t work because the vendor had left the batteries in the unit and they had corroded…

Ah well.. the lenses are compatible with my existing camera body so I’m happy to take them to Hawaii even if I can’t take the 2nd body… and it will be less likely to encroach on my baggage allowance!!!

The other bonus of course was lunch with Semele,at my 3rd ever blogmeet… I really enjoy meeting up with blog chums… I just need to get to blogmeets where my other mates are!!! (read the US and Europe…).

The other big news is that Red had her birthday yesterday. Why not pop over and say a belated Happy Birthday and while you’re there check out her new blogskin! A certain Singular Kiwi/Aussie chick made it specially for her.. and we’re both just a teeny bit proud of it…
