  1. I am listening to and watching Harry Connick Jr on the Only You DVD … hmmm nothing like reliving great memories… and cheaper than buying a programme at the event …
  2. I realise from Red’s comments that I didn’t clearly explain the conversation with Pia. She was referring to the week I kind of didn’t post at all rather than the content of interest in the posts in question … I noticed once I had actually posted the entry that I had posted every day this week!!!! I think I’m in a time warp… anyway… fished me a good compliment though! Thanks Red!
  3. Bliss is visiting Sydney for a week and hung out this evening for dinner… felt like she never left!!! She has marvellous news too!!! She has bought a house! A definite advertisement for moving up north.

The process elicited a lot of stepping outside her comfort zone and the acquisition of research and negotiation skills she hadn’t ever really wanted to acquire… but the results speak for themselves!!! Bliss has a mortgage and a 3 bedroom house on 550sqm of land. Happily, I get go go up and install her tv/video/dvd and soundsystem… can’t wait…

  4. I had a business meeting with Clown today. He has some writing work he needs done for some in-house publications, he does the design for. He has offered it to me and I am looking forward to getting my teeth into something a bit new!! (Not to mention, something that pays better than babysitting…)
  5. I went to a babyshower tonight … you may read about my feelings on baby showers here and be concerned for the mum2b for having invited me… but this was my kind of baby shower… just a low key, coffee and dessert type of baby shower (at a restauraunt no less)with no silly games… Just an excuse for the girls to get together! Now the count down is really on for Miss Shelf who has 3 weeks to go before her first son arrives to join his two older sisters…
  6. Lights out…

On Being Thought of as Slack

February 9, 2005 by

It was pointed out to me yesterday that I have been rather slack at posting lately, Pia, one of my workmates apparently checks in on me as soon as she has cleared her in box in the morning and commented that too often my blog has been found wanting.

Sigh.

Really haven’t had that much to say… been getting too bogged down in websites and overly dramatic relationships with friends…

So, if you too have been finding my blog wanting… Forgive me… please accept this humble apology as a gesture of good faith that I will try to be better …

Really…

In Like Flick

February 7, 2005 by

In my short *snorts* history of flatting never has there been such a seamless transition between flatmates.

Of course, it helps that moving day was Monday… when I am at work.

I arrived home home to find Flick all moved in and the house back to its usual pristine *chokes* self. I couldn’t be happier. I think this whole flatting with Flick business is going to be rather good!

the Count took some time to move out, there was still some of his stuff here this morning… and actually, I think he took the doorstop with him… just as well Flick has dumbells that will keep the door shut overnight!!! I shall have to do some scouting out of the Count to find the errant wedge…

It is nice to have a girl around the house. I think the Count was a good reminder that it is a cool thing to have a girl around. Plenty of time for mixed “flatting” when I am no longer singular…

Waitangi Day

February 6, 2005 by

As promised, here is my homage to New Zealand to celebrate Waitangi Day.

Here is a link that will give you the full run down on the treaty of Waitangi, the founding document of New Zealand. February 6th marks the anniversary of the treaty signing in 1840 and while the treaty is still contraversial due to conflict about it’s interpretation the day is recognized annually as our National Day.

It’s funny actually, we don’t celebrate Waitangi Day in the same way Australians mark Australia Day. Sure, we get the day off work and many people head out of town for the long weekend but NZers are pretty low key about many things… and unless you come across a group of expatriates in Leicester Square on Feb 6th you might not actually notice celebrations going on… Especially not in New Zealand itself…

Anyway, regardless of your take on the whole Waitangi thing there are a million reasons to celebrate New Zealand.

  1. It is quite possibly the most stunningly beautiful country in the South Pacific, if not the world.
  2. The New Zealand people are some of the most hospitable and welcoming people you will ever meet. It is not unusual for friends or neighbours to drop in at any time and be offered meals or even beds for the night. Even better, strangers will be welcomed the same way.
  3. New Zealanders are as sports crazy as the Australians, but for the NZers, their fortunes rise and fall with the fortunes of our National Rugby Union team, the All Blacks. A loss to the boys is like a dark cloud going over the sun!
  4. New Zealand is a South Pacific nation and the culture is heavily influenced by the other cultures in that region, music and food shares many characteristics with its island neighbours.

The truth is, I could go on all day… as I am sure you could about your home, but I am so proud to be a Kiwi, and even though my chosen home is Australia, my heart will always belong to New Zealand first.
