An the Rain Goes On

August 17, 2004 by

Hooray – I am still happy with the rain even though I seem to have lost my umbrella, (it has been that long since I needed one…)

Work continues to be an itch I can’t scratch, I was so jangly today I had to take an hour out at lunchtime to watch the Mens Gymnastic re-runs (I was so frustrated that I am catching Olympic fever… and I was trying SO hard not to!!!! Gah!). For further therapy I came home from work, sat up in bed with the laptop (as I am now in fact) and wrote a 2000 word essay on Biblical ways to cope with frustration, or more specifically the gap between expectation and reality.

Once I have tidied it up I am planning on submitting it to the aforementioned magazine to see if I can get it published too! I think it was Peter McHugh a pastor from Melbourne who wrote a book called “The Creative Power of Frustration”… well here I am! Living proof!!!

By the way, further developments in the behavioural study concerning moving my bed around… I have reverted to sleeping back to the old side of the bed but now sleep on my right hand side rather than the left!! … I think it has something to do with the fact that when I re-made the bed I forgot to move the electric blanket to the other side… This is a good thing, I am getting a handle on the benefits of sleeping more in the middle of the bed! Maybe if I only move the blanket halfway I could really sleep in the middle…. No, hang on, the pillows would be all out of whack… Pillows should be strictly two a side… trying to sleep in the middle would be too confusing….

Oh good grief … I am rambl….. *yawn*

The Outlook for Thursday!

August 16, 2004 by

Woo Hoo, it’s raining in Sydney – My car is clean(er) and I felt perfectly justified in taking a bath this evening!!!! Apparently it is going to keep raining until Thursday which is a very good thing… Unfortunately we need it to keep raining till the last Thursday in November so the water reservoirs can get back to allowable levels for daily bathing (as opposed to showering) … Of course, by then no one in Sydney wants a bath … we’ll all be down at the beach!!!

I had some good news today. I have had an article accepted for publication in a national Christian Women’s magazine!! My first real live publication!! Woo hoo… It is an article about my mum and her rehabilitation from a major car accident 6 years ago, I had almost forgotten that I had sent it in a couple of months back and was stoked to find in my inbox today a request for the photos.

Am happy to report that I haven’t had my life to deeply impacted by the Olympics so far except to find myself strangely proud of the Australian achievements… New Zealand has none to speak of so far, not even in the bl**dy Tri-Nations rugby … gah am I in danger of turning into an Australian? CODE BLUE: CODE BLUE: Quick somebody get me a Steinlager, kumura chups and a Moro bar…

On Leaving Town and Coming Home

August 15, 2004 by

Siiiiiiiiiiigh ….

I took Friday off work and escaped for the weekend to the Southern Highlands of NSW.

What bliss … A friend has her family home there and often strangers and friends come a-visiting and making the most of some time away from the city. It is a beautiful part of the country and so close to Sydney as to be able to do as a day trip. If you have a look on this link it is Berrima that is my favourite town.

http://www.southern-highlands.com.au/htms/townsVillages/townsVillages.htm

The weather is significantly cooler than the city, due to the altitude I guess, but the combustion stove (read Aga for our European readers) kept the house a warm 25deg, electric blankets warmed the flannelette sheets and the places we visited all seemed to keep everything warm so that the only times we shivered were between car and destination!!! It is indeed a very therapeutic thing to leave town and get to places where the stars are visible once again.

I have come home to some new mail from YGM, and another dodgy invitation to correspond with a lonely widow… I am of course, sympathetic but sadly it is not an attractive prospect to begin such an invitation with “I lost my wife to cancer 5 years ago, are you the one I am looking for?”

Will read YGM’s missive and write one of my own, as usual…

I had a dream which involved some snogging this morning. It is unusual for me to remember my dreams so this one is notable. The snogger in question was a friend I have spend a significant amount of time with in the last few years … have never actually snogged… have to say I have thought about it once or twice, but never dreamed it before. Hmmm …. Hope I can look him in the eye when I see him this week and not blush…

Tasks for Thursday

August 12, 2004 by

There is something very satisfying about getting those jobs done that you don’t like doing …

Thursday is accounts day here … I have to fill in the paperwork to submit to the dollar babies* for cheque generation.

It is tedious.

Not to mention that I have to calculate my mobile calls for reimbursement … Checking each one to figure out if it is personal or business… This takes quite some time … BORING!!!!!!!

Anyway … I am writing this to celebrate that it is done …

Now I can do the fun stuff …

Hmmm if I can remember what the fun stuff is ….

(*actually a dollar baby is a baby born in NZ in 1967, the year decimal currency came in)
