Tempting Fate

November 19, 2007 by

It was cards night tonight. We haven’t played for ages. (And my and I partner lost – Yah Boo Sux.)
Anyway, I’d left the house without my wallet and my licence lives in my wallet – (mmm still not sure where it is… must remedy). The thing is, you have to carry your licence with you when you drive so I’m hardly ever without it. No big deal right? What the chances that on the one day you don’t take your wallet with you that you’re going to get pulled over?
Slim to none… surely.
Hah.
Not likely. I made the comment on the way out the door, hope I don’t get pulled over, I’m not carrying my licence.
Shez says… naaah, no worries, as if…
So, I’m not 50m from the place I’d been parked and a plain car flashes his blue and reds at me.
Oh.
Sh*t.
I pull over
Officer Hot comes up the car and asks if I’ve been drinking.
I say [um] Yes.
He asks how much I’d had.
I say a very little bit of champagne.
I count for the sniffer.
And pass the test.
And blow me down, he doesn’t ask for my licence.
Now THAT’s divine intervention.

Meme Too

November 18, 2007 by

I found this meme at Reflecting and thought it looked kind fun
I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments.. what is it?
Produce: Nectarines… or mangos. At least at this time of year.
Bakery: Wholegrain Rolls
Meat: Chicken Breast
Frozen Foods: Raspberries
Dry Goods: Weet-Bix
Let’s say we’re heading out for a weekend getaway. You’re only allowed to bring 3 articles of clothing with you. So, what’s in your bag?
Jeans
White Blouse
White singlet
If I was to listen in on one of your conversations throughout the day, what 5 phrases or words would I be most likely to hear?
Oh really?
Yeah, I know, it was on facebook.
Have you tried turning it off and then back on again?
I’ll add it to the list.
I totally blogged it
So, what 3 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn’t get to do, you probably wouldn’t be in the best mood?
Get Coffee
Check my Blog Feeds
Did I say get coffee already?
You just scored a whole afternoon to yourself. We’re talking a 3 hour block with nobody around. What 5 activities might we find you doing?
Watching TV
Reading my RSS Feeds
Playing Scrabulous
Cleaning up the House
Yakking to the Fam on Skype
We’re going to the zoo. But, it looks like it could start storming, so it’ll have to be a quick visit. What 3 exhibits do we have to get to?
The Elephants
The Seals
yup, the bears
You just scored tickets to the taping of any show that comes on t.v. of your choice. You can pick between 4, so what are you deciding between?
Grey’s Anatomy
Private Practice
Friends
CSI NY
You’re hungry for ice cream. I’ll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?
OK – this is tricky… there are Ice Cream Rules…
Good Vanilla
Dark Chocolate
Raspberry, like really rich raspberry – but not sorbet.
Somebody stole your purse/wallet…in order to get it back, you have to name 5 things you know are inside to claim it. So, what’s in there?
Mobile Phone
Ipod mini. Green
USB Cable for Phone
USB Cable for iPod
Batteries for Noise Cancelling headphones
You are at a job fair, and asked what areas you are interested in pursuing a career in. Let’s pretend you have every talent and ability to be whatever you wanted, so what 4 career would be fun for you?
Concert Photographer
Backing Singer for Sting
Uni Lecturer
Painter (not of houses)
If you could go back and talk to the old you, when you were in high school, and inform yourself of 4 things, what would you say?
It gets better.
Losing a Friend is not the end of the workd,. there are others, and they are better.
You’re only intimidated if you let yourself be.
Worry Less.
Tag, you’re it! If you decide to play along, leave a comment and I’ll come read your answers.

Vitamin Dee

November 17, 2007 by

What Day is it?

I just had to post a follow up to Stella’s winter wonderland pix. It’s one of the things I love about blogging, the whole internationality of it all… we down ‘ere south t’border are celebrating the onset of Summer while them up t’north are posting pix of snow and icicles… Makes me smile.

These pics were taken this morning while Shoe and I sat on the beach for an hour or so, soaking up some vitamin D and perving on the surf lifesavers… (whoar… Sorry, didn’t get any pix of them… you’ll have to use your imagination.)
Just gotta love Sydney.

In Heaven

November 16, 2007 by

Actually not sure if I am yet. Going to see ‘As it is in Heaven‘ tonight… apparently one of the longest running movies in Oz. This is a bit if a placeholder in case I don’t get a chance to post after I get home later…
Watch this space!
[This Space]
Well, I have to say I’ve been building this movie up for months… it’s been that long I’ve been wanting to see it… and truth is I knew the basic premise of the movie without really knowing anything much and even with such great expectations I was not disappointed.
Actually I felt there was almost an element of the ‘Footloose’ for grown-ups (though most of us affected by ‘Footloose’ in its first showings are certainly grown-ups now…), the stranger comes to town, turns the place on its head in not the least of places but the church.
As a regular churchgoer myself some of the prejudices are no less real in suburban Australia than in rural Sweden, to a lesser degree I’m sure, particularly given the branch of the faith I adhere to…
There were some interesting nods to Christianity, the scene where the 3 women minister to Daniel after he was taken out of the river injured was reminiscent of the women ministering to Jesus’ body in the tomb after his crucifixion and I think deliberately so. It was definitely a redemption story, albeit with a flawed redeemer.
I consider the end to be predictable, though everything in me wished it wasn’t so, but much like ‘Life is Beautiful the movie was all the richer for its bittersweetness.
For me it was the fabulous characters that made the movie; believable, recognizable and warm. Daniel, in finding love not just with Lena but with his whole choir, in turn found his heart made whole, even in its weakness.
Definitely one for the collection.
