Breakfast for Three

August 23, 2005 by

I am taking a break from the regularly scheduled countdown pix to show off my neighbours… These little parrots are called Rainbow Lorikeets and are in the habit of visiting me in the morning for a saucer of sugar/honey water.

Lorikeets are pattern feeders so they have a circuit of places they eat, all seasonal of course, as not all the native nectar flowers they feed from are in season all year round… But sugar or honey are always on the menu here. So they call in every morning… and sometimes in the afternoon as well!! Cheeky buggers.

I am a little afraid of becoming the crazy birdlady of Manly … they are so fearless now that he (at least I think it’s a he – he’s certainly more forward than his mate) will land on the door handle (pictured) and wait for me to get my act together. Once I have been thoroughly chastised into moving my butt from the sofa and into the kitchen to prepare their breakfast and I go out onto the balcony they will happily land on my hand to drink straight out of the glass…. Like I said, cheeky…

It’s a cool party trick when I have NZ guests staying so I am hoping they are going to be around when Mum comes to stay at Christmas time. She will LOVE them and I am already having visions of having to pose every
morning for a picture with the neighbours…

And, even though I could be called the crazy birdlady of Manly if I keep it up, there’s a part of me that loves the bright and glowing colours of the Aussie birds, raucous though they may be… they are a whole different kettle of fish to the shy and retiring Fantails or Tuis of home.

Image Issues

August 20, 2005 by

Ok, I should first and foremost like to thank Hawaii Pictures for the generous use of their thumbnails to illustrate my forthcoming trip to their gorgeous shores…
I would like to take my own credit for the images I am linking to below however… All my own work from the Major works show last Monday of the 3rd year dancers at SCA the college I graduated from all those years ago… (as a singer… NOT a dancer mind you!).
Click here to go to the Shutterfly Share… (I hope…)

Midweek Malaise

August 17, 2005 by

I got fed up with work and a slow network today so I left the office at 3 and came to work at home.

Except I am blogging… not working…

I didn’t get home till 1.45 this morning – the babysitting was a marathon… so I am tired and, as it happens, thoroughly fed up with having to be solely responsible for myself…

I want someone to take one look at me and say “Dee, can I make you a coffee? Would you like to put your feet up for an hour or so while I cook dinner and vacuum the house?” Or better still, “Shall I give you a massage?”

Some days being a single girl is the best thing ever. And on days like today it’s depressing…

The Bigger than Ben Hur Big Thing

August 17, 2005 by

Well, given all the Big Thing talk I have been doing lately you might have thought I was all big thinged out…

And you’d be right…

So you would have been very sympathetic this afternoon to see me checking out the venue for our biggest Big Thing ever. I have a new appreciation for Chops and the Big Things he does all the time… I swear it would drive me barking mad…

Today our All Staff Big Day Out was a visit to the Big Thing venue… (a Sydney House of Chops as it were)… we all toddled across town to check out the venue and to catch the vision for the Big Thing and get all inspired (read scared stiff) of all the work that is going to go into this Big Thing…

I had the vision… I swear, before we even left the office, I had lots of much more interesting work to do (no disrespect intended Chops) – but we were compelled to attend… So now, my feet are sore and my work remains undone… However, to their credit the Big Thing Venue people gave us a muffin to restore our flagging spirits at the end of the day which was very nice thank you.

And can you guess where I am now?

I’m sitting on babies… I got an emergency call at 8pm to come and relieve a sitter who needed to go home sick… My agent caught me by surprise and so I said yes. I’m an idiot… the agent didn’t tell me the parents won’t be home till one.

Silly twit…
