Oh My G.O.D.S

August 6, 2004 by

Y.G.M (You’ve Got Mail) has been sending and receiving numerous emails this week through the above mentioned G.O.D.S. It has been an interesting correspondence; me, my usual witty self, chatting blithely away about little and nothing and him, responding with interest and with the same. There would appear to be a distinct lack of similarities in our makeup which leads me to believe that we are destined simply for emails which may slowly taper off as different interests develop. Still, tis proving enjoyable and not at all disturbing for now…

Which leads me to wonder how it is possible to tell whether chemistry can be transmitted via cyber space. In this particular instance have decided that it hasn’t been, confirmed by receipt of his photo this morning.

He appears not to be an axe wielding maniac which is a relief but also appears to be the kind of person to whom I might not glance at twice if I am strictly honest. Is that a shocking kind of admission?

Gah … It appears I am a shallow girl after all…

B***er

Time Flies When You Are Wasting It

August 6, 2004 by

I haven’t been sleeping well.

Actually it’s more of an inability to get to sleep that I have been suffering from for about 3 weeks now.

Once I have attained the dormant state all is well, however, to add insult to injury, not being able to rejoin the waking world without extremely loud Merrick and Rosso in the morning and copious amounts of coffee is also of some concern. (Yay, if you’re reading this, any “professional” advice would be greatly appreciated…)

After struggling so long, ashamed to take this problem to a healthcare professional, I believe I might be closing in on a diagnosis.

I have stumbled across little known condition called Cyber Spatial Inquisitivity Apnoea. It’s viral in nature and one infection is quite capable of setting off a whole chain reaction of episodes, leaving our hapless victim with raw red eyes and eye sockets, bad hair, punctuality problems and a tendency to extended bouts of yawning.

Symptoms include a particular look in the eyes, somewhat crazed in the quest for new information, itchy fingers which blindly tap on the table when there is no keyboard to hand (pun intended) and an inability to talk about anything other than the amusing anecdotes from other such crazed individuals who may, or may not, be affected by the same disease.

It’s genesis is innocent enough, a look here a chuckle there, however a victim in the grip of a particularly heavy episode can lose hours and hours of sleep in the frantic grip of curiosity concerning the lives of others as lived out in cyber space.

Sadly, as this disease is very newly discovered and has not made it onto the books of the Centres for Disease Control and as with many other viruses any remedy is completely experimental and could be as hazardous as the condition.

I suspect though that it might have something to do with leaving one’s laptop in the living room rather than taking it to bed …

So, This is Tuesday

August 4, 2004 by

An altogether unremarkable day, so, I won’t keep you long.

Utterly tedious at work…. wondering how long I would have to hold out for retrenchment… by current NSW laws it would appear that after 2.5 years in the job I would be entitled to 7 weeks severance.

I could live with that… (But not for long).

G.O.D.S and Man

August 2, 2004 by

Today, it happened.

“You’ve Got Mail”

This is actually the 3rd response to my profile on a G.O.D.S. (Godly. Online. Dating. Site) The previous two rated no mention at all as one was a Nigerian email offering me ridiculous amounts of money for giving out my credit card details. As if… I might have been snared if it had been from somewhere like Madagascar but Nigeria? Will they ever learn???

The next response was from the West Indies. Now that’s more like it … Dreams of Sun, surf and cocktails on the beach… However the prospective beau was spamming the newbies on the site with an automated email selling himself as a Godly minister and inviting me to his lovely church and to check out his website. Sadly he was somewhat older than my ideal… by about 20 years… To add insult to injury I don’t think he had even looked at my profile, guess he was going for the shotgun approach…

Today’s offering has prospects. Right age, apparently articulate, close enough that meeting would not be complicated to arrange (in the future…) and far enough away that we aren’t going to bump into each other on the street! Nothing startling about the correspondence but seems like an interesting addition to the day’s goings on…

As usual, will let you know if anything develops!
