Cosmic Ballet

October 20, 2004 by

I think it is my inner photographer or artist that responds to the aesthetic beauty of random moments. Often something will strike me as interesting and I will mull over it for some time. Usually it’s words, but sometime it is just random images or situations I happen upon in the course of my day.

Let me explain.

I was sitting in traffic (in my car I might add) idly looking out my window and happened to see two completely random individuals who appeared to have consulted each other that morning in the manner of their dress for the day.

Both male, of similar stature and both wearing dark pants, sky blue business shirt and navy tie. Could have been twins… But weren’t. One was exiting his driveway as if to come across the road and patronise the nearby service station, the other walking towards him at a right angle (for what it is worth) each was oblivious of the other.

I am fairly sure I was the only one who observed this particular moment and it has been rattling around in my mind since, it has actually been over a week since this incident occurred.

I guess the impact it has had on me is a speculation that there is so much more to see than the particulars of a situation. The cosmic ballet of creatures going about their daily lives outside of consultation with others all creating patterns and pictures that only someone above or distanced from the action actually sees. Even if they have no relationship with each other they are related by the end result the image, the product of their movement, industry or breath.

Yep. More to life than meets the eye…

Attack of the Killer Computer

October 18, 2004 by

I think I might have a black eye tomorrow and if anyone asks, as I cannot tell a lie, I am going to have to say my computer hit me.

It’s true.

Tonight I choose to blog from a prone position on the sofa so I shouldn’t be surprised that said instrument isn’t quite so stable on my lap as it would be were it on the desk. Here I was, with one eye on the TV and the other on the blogs of the day.. and before you know it *Thwack* Dell is leaping off the lap and onto my face.

In actual fact, the circumstances surrounding Dell leaping off my lap and into my face were complete distraction at the prospect of Bliss having a tantrum.

Now, you must understand that this is monumental. Bliss wasn’t actually HAVING a tantrum, she was simply TALKING about it… This whole prospect is so startling because Bliss is the NICEST person I have ever met, a phlegmatic in the truest sense of the word and totally lovely, the kind of girl who makes one feel like a complete b*tch in comparison.

She has to go to work tonight and do a night shift and clearly is not in the mood to leave the house late at night and in the rain.

However, having decided that it is pointless having a tantrum she gave up on the prospect leaving me disappointed, I think a Bliss tantrum would be quite the spectacular finish to her time in the flat…

By the way, if you have a moment, could you offer up a prayer? Bliss will be gone in a week to 10 days and the girl I thought was going to replace her bailed today… “Not Happy Jan”

Quiet Never Really Is

October 16, 2004 by

It’s Saturday and I am sitting on the sofa (not bed blogging today) after having taken a dose of Hollywood Romance (Notting Hill). Now that the telly is off it is quiet in my living room.

Well, actually if you think about it, quiet is relative. As it is…

1. I can hear Bliss turn the pages of the Weekend Magazine section of the SMH
2. I can hear the traffic negotiating the hill down to the Manly waterfront and across the bridge to the lagoon.
3. I can hear the wind blow our door, the one with loose glass so it has a very distinctive rattle.
4. I can hear my fingers tapping over the keys with lightning speed (and the regular hesitation as I avail myself of the back space key – lighting speed is notorious with a lack of accuracy).
5. I can hear the lorikeets as they do the daily rounds of their various chosen local feeding stations (not my place any more… too noisy).
6. I can vaguely hear the roar of the waves at the beach. Quite possibly my favourite local noise.

Surprisingly given the close proximity if the neighbours …

1. I can’t hear any stereos blasting Saturday morning cleaning music.
2. I can’t hear any lawn mowing.
3. I can’t hear any drilling or hammering. This is very unusual, we live in a large apartment block and at least one unit is being renovated at any one time…

So, without the neighbours, and with the uncanny ability to filter out traffic noise, I am enjoying a [relatively] quiet day at home.

Have a great weekend!
