The Next Place.

May 26, 2009 by

I’ve been thinking about where I’m going to live next.  Don’t get me wrong, I do rather like my little flat, I love its garden and I LOVE the price, but I do not love that it is old and damp and that it is rather small.  So, I’m plotting my next move.  It won’t be until next year, so I’m SERIOUSLY planning ahead… but I have been thinking about what I’d like it to look like.

  1. I’d like two bedrooms, one for me to sleep in, and the other, a guest room which would primarily be an office.
  2. I’d like a bath.  I know, it’s politically incorrect to want one here in Sydney, so maybe I need to move back to NZ or to the North of NSW so that I can bathe guilt free, but after ‘a day like today’ sometimes a soak in Epsom Salts really is going to be the only remedy.
  3. Additionally the water pressure in the shower has to be good.
  4. I’d like a garden for my patio table and barbeque.
  5. I’d like a decent stove, gas hob.
  6. I need good, fast internet coverage, preferably on cable rather than ADSL.
  7. I’d love more natural light, Lulu loves to laze about in the sun and she gets very little of it here.
  8. The flat needs to be pet friendly, as in screened security door and screened windows. (Oh and the landlord needs to allow for cats too).
  9. I need a built in wardrobe.
  10. I’d like it to be reasonably new.
  11. A garage for my car.
  12. Good Storage space, though I’m not a huge pack-rat. No storage means no junk so it has its compensations.  Definitely needs good space in the kitchen though.
  13. I love that I’m close to shops here, so that would be good in the future as well, also close to public transport, I use it so much more than I used to simply because it’s really close and handy.

Have I missed anything?  What would you look for in your next place?

Things to Do This Week.

May 24, 2009 by

1.  Edit the Photos for http://www.gattopardoday.net – this was a wonderful event I shot on Friday evening.  Here are a couple of early previews…

A viola of the SBS Youth Orchestra through the harp (which was idle at the time)

Benedetto Latteri, Italian Consul General and his lovely wife.

2.  Write up a blog post on this… for my uni blog (here, if you’re interested).

3.  Begin researching my next and last essay for the semester. Something to do with net neutrality in the case of Google Books’ potential monopoly in the archive of public domain books… yeah. Messy… this is Weds and Thursday’s project down at the State Library.

4.  Start deconstructing photoshop files for a new client’s web job.

5.  Plan class for Monday night… clearly that’s a Monday job… did I mention I’m teaching elementary singing??  Not sure how I ended up doing that… must have been mental to say yes in the middle of everything else, but I’m enjoying it.

6.  Plan class for my Thursday tutorial group.

7.  Get cracking on the Actionscript and animation of my Flash Project for my other class, this will be the last assignment handed in this semester… woooooot!

8.  Go and see Angels and Demons.  Have been dying to see it and have been thwarted at every turn so far…

9.  Meet up with a couple of clients.  First one’s at 9am Monday.

10.  Hand in my latest finished assignment.  Thanks to the editing assistance of Miss Lisa I’m really happy with it.

11.  Go and see Katie Noonan perform at the Basement on Wednesday, seriously can’t wait for this one.

12.  There’s bound to be more… but this is a promising start.  Simply having the essay in #10 done makes the whole week feel lighter… I do not love the feeling of a looming deadline…

Thank Fi for Memes

May 21, 2009 by

I’ve been remiss, mostly as it’s nearing semester’s end and there are assignments to be done.  There is also work to be done for As Scene that is keeping me wonderfully busy.  So when the chance of a meme comes up, I’ll take it…

Stocktake Thursday

Five Things I’m liking right now

  1. Criminal Minds on DVD, loving it so much actually left the house today to go buy Season 3 so that when I finish season 2 which I’m nearing the end of now I can launch straight into the next.
  2. Working from home.  I’ve said for ages that I don’t really see myself as a business woman and thought that As Scene was really just going to keep me going through uni, but now that there’s work coming through and it’s going well I’m really loving it.  And seriously, working from home with Criminal Minds in the background beats going to the office where I have to sit wearing noise cancelling headphones…
  3. The fact that my littler sister is cooking me up another niece or nephew… Due late in November.  Saving every penny so I can get over and meet the little ‘un.
  4. I’m really liking the studying thing.  Really liking it.  Learning heaps, meeting great people and loving having my brain extended!
  5. Princess Lulubelle.  She is an entertaining little minx and appears to be loving having me home much more.  She does tend to be a bit chatty, and as with all Orientals the noise can be a bit of a nuisance but she’s so interactive, loving a good play and a cuddle so it makes being home not lonely at all.  She’s also pretty naughty as is demonstrated by the picture below… and that has its amusement factor…

Five Things I’m not Liking so Much

  1. I’m really not liking church at the moment.  I’m cooking up a post about that but it’s unlikely that it will see the light of day.  I have been spending time at a different church because it isn’t my faith that’s troubled, just the expression of it.  I’m kind of a dual citizen of both churches but don’t really feel settled in either.
  2. Housekeeping.  I’m generally not slovenly but for some reason I’m really fed up with keeping house… I even went so far as to check out benchtop dishwashers on ebay so I could actually do away with the business of doing dishes, but I didn’t buy one… (yet…)
  3. The wet weather.  I don’t mind cooling temps and having a cosy home and lovely hot soup and crusty rolls (dinner tonight…) but rain, Do.Not.Love.
  4. The absence of Tequila in my house.  I’m sure it’s doing me good, and I’m well covered for alcohol in the cupboards due to the gift of a carton of beer (as in 24 stubbies), but sometimes tequila is the answer and I haven’t had any for AGES!
  5. Holes in my shoes… need to replace the Reeboks.

Feel free to give me your Thursday Stocktake and link to it in the comments!!
